The obit mentions him from being on "Cheers", but I remember him best as the host of that disaster special "Who Wants To Marry A Multi-Millionaire" starring Darva Conger as the annulment seen 'round the world! He was also on "Mork & Mindy" as the hot dog seller guy, which I also remember better than his "Cheers" work.

He was a prolific character actor whose career spanned 30+ years - He won a Primetime Emmy and also had a recurring guest role on MURPHY BROWN - as Murphy's talk show Nemesis (i.e. Bill Reilly) and love interest --- If I recall correctly His Character id the Father or Murphy's baby

I remember in 1970s ,< I use to listen all the time >when Jay Thomas was DJ in Charlotte NC , Big WAYS Radio 610, He was top DJ for years, When he left for Hollywood , everyone in the area could not believe it and were upset he was leaving NC
