I was disturbed to hear a couple months back that France is aggressively going after the clients, but not the providers. Maybe that has something to do with the recent changes.

It is already that way in Canada.

"Current laws on prostitution in Canada, introduced in 2014, make it illegal to purchase sexual services but legal to sell them."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Canada

I have not quite figured out the logic to the Canadian law. It is legal to offer but illegal to accept.

May one suppose this might be because the former owner of Rentboy just got jail time?

That is a logical assumption.

Or "handy men"? Perhaps a Head Butler?

Yes! A good butler helps a gentleman that needs something hung, and when something is wrinkled, to help straighten that out for him.

Now it seems each ad description ends with a bunch of hashtag keywords. Why? IMO it's a rather offputting gimmick.

Is rentmen going to redesign itself out of existence???

...and out come all the hagglers. It's like being a teenager on Craigslist again. At least my reviews here still list my rate.

The reason so many countries ONLY legalize selling is so prositutues don't fear going to the police when abused. Robbed, raped etc and feel free to discuss health issues etc. and most importantly PAY TAXES. Even the VAT.

They seem to be letting guys put their rates in the text of their ad. If you put it first it shows right under your picture on mobile devices. You are too unique to have to put up with hagglers.

But that does no good when he's only looking at your rentmen ad. Sure, the prospective client could find the information elsewhere, but he doesn't. He calls to offer $35 instead.

Yup, I did that and so far they've neither deleted it nor edited the rest of my text. Still, it's not searchable and we all know most guys do not read ad text, or do so selectively.

I doubt that'll last long. They don't even let us put phone numbers in the text.

Yeah you never know. I don't think anyone understands their strategy and the decisions they've made to reduce their liability. But maybe, just maybe, they've decided that what you say in your text does not put them at risk in the same way that providing a data field specifically for rates does.

I'm way out of my depth here so I'm just guessing as to why they're screeners seem to be allowing it.

Anybody use Jock2Go? It seems OK.

I set up a profile on Jock2Go earlier this year when I was doing extended travel. I still have the listing active since it was a freebie for a premium ad, though it doesn't seem the site is getting a lot of use.

I like the user interface and think it could have good potential. However, at least in my non-VPN location here in the US, it doesn't show rates. On the advertiser settings dashboard there is a button for "Rates" but it only offers Yes/No toggles for "Incall" "Outcall" and "Overnight" with no field for entering a number. Maybe those toggles change to numeric fields in other locations or circumstances. Seems to allow rates in ad text however - at least for now!

Hagglers only haggle when you don't make the rate crystal clear early on in communication.

Granted, with some people it's an inherent thing: They can't help but always be looking for the better/best deal.

There was a guy on rentmen who was doing the "ask me" thing, even before the rates disappeared. I had left him an email at one point on the site, asking about his rates. When he finally got back to me, he didn't answer my question, saying rather that I should txt him.

So, I did. I told him the kind of scene I was looking for. He agreed it sounded hot. I asked again about his rates, given that scenario.

Pause.

No response.

Finally, I sent an "are you there?" txt. He apologized, and came out with a figure rather higher than I would have hoped.

I politely said that quote was a little too steep for my budget, I thanked him for his honesty, and I started to bow out.

But then he asked me what I would consider. I told him. "I could do that, man" was the immediate response back from him. I thanked him profusely.

Then he asked for my stats. And it could have been my age, or my belly, or both - but the enthusiasm seemed to go way downhill after that. We had been talking about meeting on Sunday, perhaps - and when I now asked him what time, he only said "text me Saturday."

I didn't. I'm probably letting things go, unless he maybe texts me back still wondering if I'm wanting to meet.

I'm thinking that when he started sounding like he was losing interest - I bet you anything that he was hoping I'd raise my offer closer to his original price so that he could get more from a guy he may have decided was less than desirable to him.

I don't have time for that bullcrap.

So, we clients are NOT the only hagglers.

BTW - I met Russ a few years back, when I was on a business trip in NYC. Still one of the best escort experiences I've ever had. A classy, sexy guy. :D:D:D

Hagglers will haggle as soon as there isn't a third-party rate list providing ironclad credibliry to what I tell them my rate is. Without the authority conferred by a price tag they think it's all open to negotiation. It makes our businesses look less like premium boutiques and more like open-air Chinatown souvenir shops. A client who texted me today started asking for a discount before he even got the words out to ask what my rate was. I sent him my reviews, which at least still verify that my rate is consistent and non-negotiable. But it's not the same.

I agree, which is why I made my statement about people in general, not just clients. Escorts are guilty of game playing as well.

IMO, It's not Rentmen that differentiates this... It's the escort. We control our image, our information and how we want to be treated and seen.

This goes for rate as well: I've always put 'ask me' in my advertising... And people do. I respond directly with a rate. They can say yes or no. Simple.

If a prospective client really thinks that by not seeing a rate on my profile he can immediately open with the haggle, that's someone I'm not even going to take the time to respond to.

Ah, I see. Since you've never put your rate up, this isn't a material change for you, so you can't compare the frequency of haggling. But as someone who has always had his rate listed (until now), I can tell you that I get more hagglers now than I did before.

I'm going to put my rate in my main text but who knows if that will help much. It looks like for the foreseeable future I'll be fielding calls not only from serious prospective clients, but also from window shoppers whose price range I'm out of. This isn't new for you but it is for me.

I swear rent men is getting ridiculous. I really prefer to see the price out there before I even make an attempt to contact. If I see how expensive things are up front I know to move on to something more within my means. I ain't trying to guess or haggle with anyone and having to ask really means I gotta start asking question and establishing contact which can waste time. I could ask and 2 days later get a response. I'd rather not even bother...I see some guys have put the price in the title or the ad itself which I like, it cuts to the chase and if I'm interested I can proceed. This nonsense of text/call me first, send a pic, send references, and check later to see if I'm still interested is insane.

What is with the hashtags at the bottom of the ad? Do they go anywhere to check for more info?

I don't know - they frankly seem very annoying to me. Especially because they DON'T lead anywhere else.
