I had an unusual experience recently. I saw an escort (that I have only seen online - but have never actually met) working his regular job in retail.

 

Unfortunately, seeing him in person proved how photos online can look better than what you see in real life.

Answering your question about "recognizing" someone I know is an escort yet I never met him in person: Yes I have and usually their pics online look better than the guy looks in person. I guess we all have good and bad picture and we all select which ones we want to post on Facebook, Instagram, RM, etc.

A few decades ago I used to live in San Francisco and would see escorts and porn stars almost on a daily basis. Yes many did look better on camera or photos. A few actually looked better in person. And yes some did have regular jobs and lives.
