Seems canceling is a win for everyone. I have heard several celebrities say that Kanye is a genious. I never saw the allure. I know if I hired someone and they showed up 90 minutes late and stopped 1/3 of the way through the act, they would never be hired again.

For what it's worth: My mother had season tickets to the Lyric Opera of Chicago for some 28 seasons (she heard Callas's Debut in Norma), but never heard Pavarotti, as he always cancelled his Chicago appearances. Just reminding people that lots of people are assholes.

Since I'm one of the old farts that don't click on links that are not described - WHAT THE HELL ARE OUT TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!?!?

Give me some fucking clue what you're trying to talk about in the post.

As the post above yours describes he was 90 minutes late for a concert and left 1/3 of the way through Oh and he insulted Beyonce and said Jay Z had hired killers and also Jay Z would not return his phone calls.

Kanye is a genius. He revolutionized hiphop and made it more melodic, less gangster. He is also a huge jackass.

He's an ass. I honestly don't think he's a "genius" at all...

I don't know if he's a genius, but his behavior suggests that he thinks he is. There's nothing like unfettered self-regard to empower one's inner jackass.

Conversely, there are few things as attractive as a person of accomplishment maintaining a sense of humility.

I wouldn't go see him because the assholishness is wearing to my patience. I might buy or download his music - I have watched his music videos and at one time my daughter had "Heartless" on endless repeat - but I am only interested in seeing non-assholes in person. People like David Bowie, Paul Simon, Renaissance back in their heyday, Jefferson Airplane, and BTS - they're coming to New Jersey in March!

The closest I came to seeing an asshole at work was when I saw the Doors in 1968, but Jim Morrison had not yet spiraled into the depths of alcoholism and self-loathing that later made him an inconsistent and sometimes unprofessional performer. I was fortunate enough to see him and the rest of the group at the top of their game.

As for Kanye West's place in musical history:

"In the span of three short years, Kanye West went from hip-hop beatmaker to worldwide hitmaker, as his stellar production work for Jay-Z led to a major-label recording contract and, ultimately, a wildly successful solo career. West paired his beats with tongue-twisting raps and a self-assured, flamboyant personality. His dapper fashion sense set him apart from many of his rap peers, and his confidence often came across as boastful or even egotistical, albeit amusingly so. This flamboyance, of course, made for good press, something that West enjoyed in spades during his sudden rise to celebrity status. He was a media darling, appearing and performing at countless awards shows (and winning at them, too), delivering theatrical videos to MTV, and mouthing off about whatever happened to cross his mind. He frequently spoke out against the rampant homophobia evident in much rap music, posed for the cover of Rolling Stone as Jesus Christ, and even claimed during a televised Hurricane Katrina fundraiser that "George Bush doesn't care about black people." West courted controversy, no question about it, but his steady presence in the celebrity limelight couldn't eclipse his musical talent. His production abilities seemed boundless during his initial surge of activity, as he not only racked up impressive hits for himself (including "Jesus Walks" and "Gold Digger"), but also collaborated on smash hits with the likes of Jay-Z and Ludacris. As his career progressed throughout the early 21st century, West shattered certain stereotypes about rappers, becoming a superstar on his own terms without adapting his appearance, his rhetoric, or his music to fit any one musical mold."

Hearsay has it that he plans to run for president in 2020. I'm not laughing...I laughed at the current president-elect's campaign launch. :(

Well the saving grace here may be that he's BLACK.. Since white America has once again taken hold, I don't think they will allow lightening to strike twice and elect another Black president.... But on the other hand, if a reality show host can become President, why not a psychotic Rapper ? Americans didn't see Orange, maybe they wont see Black either ? Ah America, the Land of Opportunity.

You are correct. The only thing bigger than his talent is his ego. It's hard to tell whether he is feeling underappreciated and acting out or is actually having some kind of mental break ala Britney a few years ago.

I saw Alicia Keys and Kanye at Radio City Music Hall in NY years ago. So my answer, Unicorn, he's not an ahole all the time....

He's become a "royal prick" since you were fortunate in seeing his performance when he was apparently sane and was not "FULL of himself"-- thinking himself above and beyond the norm as viewing himself as "GOD!" Ever since he embarrassed himself at that music awards ceremony when he disparaged Taylor Swift-- I lost all interest in this man and his music and cringe when I hear that he's done something that is completely outlandish and unconventional! From all of these shenanigans and outrageousness-- he'll fall, sooner than later! :(:(:(:(:(

I've not really explored his music, but I thoroughly get the impression that the man is a creative genius that has been "touched by madness" and made worse by fame. By no means an excuse, more of part of an explanation as to why people buy into Kanye West...

It worth googling "genius arseholes", for example http://thoughtcatalog.com/sean-curtis/2015/02/4-famous-people-we-forgot-were-assholes/- people love Lennon and the Beatles but he wasn't a nice guy. Many creative types that we love and admire actually have troubled/troubling personalities and mental health disorders, in a way it's where their creativity comes from.

Papa Hemingway was one also...read every word he's written, I've always wondered what a face-to-face with him would be like

Case in point: MV for "Heartless."

No booty. No hoes. That is not West's thing; if anything, he is reacting against that kind of rap.

Also, he is frequently cited as an influence by K-poppers and K-hiphoppers who only care about the music, not personalities or personal morality. That's why Michael Jackson, all-around weirdo and suspected child molester, and Chris Brown, known abuser, are also often cited as musical and artistic influences.

Sorry, guys. Kanye West is an original who revolutionized hiphop in ways you would probably appreciate if he weren't so stuck on himself. Moreover, he has publicly supported openly bisexual hiphop artist Frank Ocean. And many of his tirades against fellow artists like Taylor Swift have a point that is undermined by the way and the circumstances under which he presents them

You want booty and hoes? Here's K-pop/K-hiphop artist, co-CEO of AOMG and Seattle native Jay Park:

(I like the song; it's the video I have a problem with.)

Then there's this, which other than the kind of vulgar "your ass will go up/your face will go down" I really like, both song and video:

No subtitles because the entire song is in English. The model in the video is Afro-Latina.
