Here's the situation. I'm thinking about going away in January for a few days by myself to Palm Springs. I would prefer to stay at a gay clothing optional resort.

Some facts:

1.) Mid 50s.

2) Generally an introvert

3.) Going alone (as I mentioned above)

4) Do not drink alcohol.

For guys in my age range (40s to 60s): do you think this is a wise idea or will I be majorly ignored and disappointed. If I were to go what resorts would be best for men in my age category?

Thanks

Jon

Were you thinking of hiring while there? I dont know much about the resorts, but I do know that Dane Scott, who lives in PS, is one of the treasures of the escort world, and a few hours with him will make your visit memorable and worthwhile. Not to be missed.

There's no reason why your age should be an issue, unless you appear to be very unhealthy. Most of my visits to PS have been alone, and I've been many times. I prefer going alone. I rarely drink alcohol, and I don't do drugs anymore. I'm not introverted, so I can imagine that could affect meeting people anywhere.

If you're looking to hook-up with someone, your choice of resort might matter. Some gay PS resorts really are nothing more than bathhouses, and to my knowledge, no resort caters exclusively to younger guys. Every place offers a mix.

If you pick a resort that is less known for its sexually charged ambience, the chances of a hook-up may be slimmer, because those resorts attract a lot of couples who are in relationships. But you'll always find single travelers at these resorts, too.

I've had the pleasure of hiring Dane TWICE when he lived in Chicago just a few blocks from me.

Was hoping to meet some of the guys at the resort etc.

If you were anticipating and expecting to engage the services of more than one specific escort while you're basking in the sun in Palm Springs, in addition of seeing Dane, I'd definitely seek out the expertise

of David, formerly of San Francisco. Check out his website by doing a google or bing search; I tried to post it here, but I had difficulty in its working!

I've known David for a while and have been with him on three or four occasions; for the past two or three years, he's done a lot of travel out of this country to experience the culture of other countries.

He and I have yet to rekindle to discuss and to compare our enriching traveling adventures!!!!!!

You might try Dane's good friend Stephen Kesslar as well. He also lives in Palm Springs.

Hey Jon,

The last time I was in Palm Springs I stayed at the Escape resort. I'd rank it "moderate" in the raunch spectrum... it's clothing-optional but it's not a bathhouse. It's a small, well-maintained place and I found the other guests friendly. The pool is really nice and you can choose a room right across from it if you'd like. There were some couples and also some singles, and a wide range of ages including 40s to 60s. The staff was very friendly. They also have a nightly happy hour, which I'd say is more oriented to socializing than drinking so it would not be a problem if you don't drink. btw the avatar on my profile is from my room there.

The other resort that seems popular is Inndulge. I haven't stayed there myself but plan to for my next visit. It seems a bit larger and more social than Escape, but I'd think either would be good for what you're describing.

There are many, many other resort choices, but these are the ones I'd suggest.

I've always had a great time in Palm Springs, and I think there is something there for every age range. The suggestions of local "guides" I'd think can definitely enhance your experience, as each of these guys are not only sexy but know what the area has to offer.

I’m reviving this thread because I am also thinking of going to Palm Springs sometime this winter, mainly to get away from our typical overcast drizzle and cold here in Seattle. I understand it can still get a bit chilly there in the mornings and evenings, but that it’s reliably sunny and warm during the day, even in December and January.

Anyway, aside from accommodations, can anyone make recommendations about things to do and see in the area (restaurants, bars, outdoor activities and sites, etc.) beyond just lounging by the pool? Also, most people on tripadvisor seem to recommend renting a car, but some say you don’t need one if you’re spending most of your time in the downtown area and that you can get by with taxis/uber/public transport/walking/biking. I hate driving but don’t want to feel stranded.

Any other thoughts and advice for a first time PS visitor?

  • You can always rent a car for just a day if you get the itch. I feel that you dont need it.
  • Hire at least one of the fine escorts in PS. If you have never met Dane Scott, now is your chance. He is golden.
  • Go to the Living Desert Museum
  • Take the Aerial Tram to the top of Mount San Jacinto
  • Check the many very affordable galleries of local art for a beautiful and unique desert painting to warm and dry you back home in Seattle.
  • Check out the theater/dance/music offerings at the Annenberg Theater and the McCallum in nearby Palm Desert.
  • Golf
  • Tennis
  • I'm not up on the restaurants right now, but there are always many fine ones.
  • Look at the stars.

I suggest a plan B. I remember staying in Provincetown the week before Labor Day weekend in 1999. I grew up in Massachusetts, but there were places I have never been (Martha's Vineyard; several great beaches). I left on the Friday before Labor Day weekend. Having a rental car made the difference!

You can get around the downtown on foot or by the Buzz (a free trolley) or even SunLine Transit buses, or rent a bike during the day (biking at night is dangerous, because streets are relatively dark). Rent a car to go places like the Annenberg Center in Rancho Mirage, the Whitewater Preserve, the Coachella Valley Preserve (stand on top of the San Andreas Fault), or to Tram to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. The Art Museum, which is right downtown, is definitely worth a visit (it's free on Thursday evenings). Take one of the organized bus tours, or the tour by Jeep to Joshua Tree National Park (an all day trip).
