At his age, I was anesthetizing people for their open heart surgery.

And I was in my sixth year of having my own private practice and had put the thought of wild behavior behind me, at least temporarily. I waited until I was a bit older to do the really crazy stuff. Heck, if one is going to be a wild and crazy guy one needs to do so in a responsible fashion. ;)

There is a good chance that Lochte will live to be 90+, so at 30+ he is still in a relatively early phase of his life and has plenty of time to mature into a fine man.

As a society, we love to raise young people up on an impossibly high pedestal of perfection way too quickly, then revile and knock them down when our outsized worship turns their head and they misbehave and have the nerve to disappoint us. We then forgive, raise them up again and start the whole process over. Think of Judy Garland, Liz Taylor, Michael Phelps (marijuana incident), Britney Spears, Gabby Douglas, Charles Barkley, etc, etc. They are (were) super people, super beautiful, super talented, super smart, but human nonetheless.

If Lochte were an ordinary Joe, his "crime" wouldn't be even noted. Read the comments here; the tide is already turning to forgiveness. I rest my case.

Not exactly. He's losing endorsement deals going forward, but they weren't going to be the first he ever had.

Ryan Lochte's net worth of $6.2 million comes almost entirely from endorsement deals built on his fame as an Olympic swimming champion... Lochte has earned nearly $17.6 million over the course of his entire career but taxes and expenses knock that down considerably.

Yes, let's wonder how smart he is with money... I hope he saved it.

One more post I need to make regarding the lack of maturity in today's society. I don't hire escorts under the age of 30. The only exception that I ever made to that rule was a now retired escort who was 29 in real years as opposed to escort years. I did so because in all of our correspondence he used complete sentences, no silly acronyms, and as a result came across being much older and wiser.

There is an under 30 escort on whom I have my eye. However, if and when I do hire him it will only be in a few more years. I made that decision based on a PM he sent me in this forum. I might even have to wait until he is beyond thirty. Waaaay beyond thirty.......... Too bad, because I had high hopes.

At his age, he's won 12 Olympic medals.....which places him second only to Phelps.

And I bet he looks better in a Speedo than you did at that age.....grin

Unfortunately, he's a bit of a moron.

I'm just thankful there's no video or police records of all the crazy shit I did in my 20's and 30's!

Typical media overkill. He got drunk and acted like an ass. Wish I could say I never did that before! Give him an appropriate slap on the wrist and move on.

I don't know in your country, but in the rest of the world having a drunk gang vandalizing private property , challenging law enforcement and bribing law enforcement are crimes. Unless, of course, it is true that in your country fast swimming athletes get a -literally- out of jail card just because they have swam fast.

Or... getting drunk with your friends and destroying a bathroom is normal there? Or is it only permissible if you are white?

Sober men of colour in your country have been killed on the spot for doing nothing, yet you are recommending what, for this white, privileged, man-child...?

A slap on the wrist...

I find this very confusing.

Umm... I think this is exaggerating their crimes a bit. It's not true that they vandalized the bathroom. Surveillance tapes show that they didn't even go into the bathroom. One of them did knock down an advertising sign that was loosely attached to the wall next the bathroom. And they urinated behind the gas station. You seem to have lots of stern things to say about the United States today, Juan. (Not that you don't have some good reasons)

Are you speaking for the IOC and the Brazilian people (and probably the rest of the world outside the USA)?

No. As I said, "Read the comments here." I do not pretend to speak for the IOC or Brazil, or the rest of the world. But we are already seeing a more sympathetic tone here and on other social media. We love to punish, but we also love to forgive. I'm just applying 70+ years of life experience to a current situation. I may be wrong and people world wide may still be cursing his name daily a year from now. But I doubt it. If he continues to compete successfully, this will likely pass. If he retires and disappears from public life, he and his stupid lies will be quickly forgotten by most people.

Now that Ryan has lost all his endorsements what will he do?

Work as a speech writer for The Donald?

Become the CEO of some new start up

Or become my pool boy providing he doesn't talk

What's your best guess?

If he wants to go to work for a first class liar, he could do no worse than Hillary Clinton.

We should revisit this thread in six month or a year. I’ll bet he’s got a highly-paid PR team currently working on repairing his image. But Lochte is already a little old for a competitive swimmer, and he may not even be allowed to compete. If he is allowed and chooses to compete, he risks being booed. Maybe saving a drowning baby would help? From an endorsement standpoint, competitive swimmers aren’t in the same league as pro footballers, basketballers or golfers. My guess is he won’t get any major paid endorsements but will be relegated to endorsing products such as dandruff shampoos or athlete's foot powders. He does have some name recognition, though, so he may be able to parlay another talent into an entertainment career (such as Vanilla Ice/home remodeling or Brian Boitano/cooking).

I was a bit pissed off to find how exaggerated the initial reports were-- they "destroyed" the rest room, they broke a door down, etc. Discovering that they peed against an outside wall and Lochte knocked down a poster, and were then held at gunpoint and were demanded to pay up is not the story we were told. Lochte's drunken lie to his mother and Billy Bush (he said he was still drunk when he did that interview, and watching it, I believe him) was stupid and compounded the whole issue, but the fact that the other swimmer had to make an $11.000 "donation" to leave the country makes it sound as if the authorities were taking full advantage of the situation.

Yes... and now they want to parade Mr. Lochte before the public for a thorough shaming. Shame indeed.

Now he's Cough Drop Boy. Cough cough Ryan!

After being dropped by four major sponsors this week, Ryan Lochte picked up a new one Thursday with Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops.

Lochte will appear in ads for the company with the tagline, “Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops: Forgiving On Your Throat,” according to a statement.
