Are you saying they don't justify it on the forum, or they don't justify it to themselves?

I would say they do justify it to themselves. For example, I tip service employees wherever I go, but certain ones I don't tip. And I calibrate the amount of the tip to the service. So I'm always evaluating who to tip, who not to tip, how much I'm going to tip them. That process involves a fair amount of justification. But I don't need to prove to anybody else that it's the right thing to do. I just do it.

I wouldn't compare a professional companion to a waiter or cab driver. The best escorts are very smart, well-traveled, independent businessmen. I wouldn't tip most escorts for that reason. They are in control of their rates. Maybe you should evaluate your own reasoning before trying to silence others. Do you tip because you want to infantilize escorts or believe they can't manage their finances? Does the personal touch of tipping provide the illusion of gifting a friend? Could this be about control since you decide if a reward was earned?

That could be classed as overthinking something that is fairly insignificant. My relationships with people are very simple and very easy because I just treat them well and don't bother with such deep thinking.

I wasn't really trying to silence anyone, in particular, although since threads about tipping escorts come up frequently, and follow a predictable course, I was trying to help this one run its course. All of the same objections to tipping are always raised and someone always raises the question as to whether escorts are REALLY professionals or not. One is always left with the same conclusion, that the client should do what feels right.

If we were to sticky one of these tipping threads, it would be a very useful resource the next time someone is tempted to start yet another thread about tipping escorts. The mods could lock the thread and direct the OP to the sticky. But that may not be the way this forum is managed. Dunno.

I try to remain neutral about tipping. Certainly there are instances where I truly rock someone's world and it took me a great deal of effort to get to them that late at night. But I always go in with the expectation that my rate is my rate. If I expected more I'd change the rate on my ad. However, I recently offered to take the fee for an uber from my location to a client out of my base fee. He had fun and included it as a "tip" of sorts. But I would never hold out my hand and expect more after getting my base rate. It's a service industry, but not the one where the base wage is unlivable.

i must really really over tip. I usually tip 100.00 or more. i guess i dont want to ask an escort for change when i hand them the fee :p

Though when it comes to other services, it really does depend on the service.

I went out to lunch with some friends from work, we told the waitress we were on an hour lunch and needed to be in and out fast. she put our order in, and i am assuming she must have bypassed a lot of orders.. we got it that quick. i gave her a tip that pretty much was the cost of the entire order. her service was that good. Every time we went there on lunch she provided the same great service and got the same great tip. We went in one day, she wasn't working, but all the other waitresses were fighting on who got to serve us lol.. :)

Then had a waitress in California who didn't even write down our order.. she said she was an actress and had an excellent memory.. not so excellent as she gave our vegan friend the carnivore special, the Jewish girl egg rolls loaded with shrimp, and i got some disgusting mess on a plate. yeah we left 1.01 for a tip. the manager couldn't stop apologizing.

What are Jewish girl egg rolls?

I think the important point to remember is that if you are hiring an "independent contractor", ALL that money is going into their pocket. A taxi ride is their only real overhead, so you should at minimum pay what you think THAT cost them to get to you. Other than that...it's about the value of the time spent. That person knocks your socks off...don't be cheap..show them how much you appreciate the extra attention. If you feel someone "called it in" and did the minimum to get paid....it's not "wrong" to not tip at all.

Is this 100.00 figure in dollars, drachmas, euros, pesos or what? I thought the largest bill in circulation in the US was the 100. Exactly what kind of change is involved here? (But yes, you are right - you "really really over tip." IMHO)

Though when it comes to other services, it really does depend on the service.

So does this mean that with an escort the service is irrelevant to the amount you tip? You just do it anyway? So really it isn't a tip after all. We need to create some other term.

Here again I totally agree with you. But this is the traditional meaning of "tip" - to insure promptness. And your kindness was noted and appreciated by people who benefitted from your generosity which really made a difference in their lives.

See above. But then too she wasn't making in excess of $200/hour. Perhaps a little slack might have been truly generous and kind. Let's remember that waitresses are human beings and not machines (where have we ever heard that before?)

I've gotten into doing mutiple day mini-vacations with a gentleman. I pay for everything, one way or the other. Somehow, "gifts" or "tokens of appreciation" seem out of place .... I've gotten the impression that he has a LOT of them, and that he'd rather spend the time together, which I appreciate. Of course, five days at an overnight rate is not insignificant.

Also, I've done that with friends for years. I've always had the highest disposable income, so it always seemed normal that I would pay the bills.

I tip generously, at least 20%. Most of my hires have been multiple days so there's travel, food, drinks and some shopping involved. All on me.

I try to be aware of the escort's identifiable costs above and beyond the outcall rate, such as parking fees. I'll add that to the fee regardless. I also try to set aside extra cash close to 20% for a tip. If the experience is disappointing I pay the agreed upon fee, but if the experience made me happy I'll include the whole 20% tip. It's all or nothing, and it doesn't take anything more than not pissing me off to get to the tip. I really don't want to get into a sliding-scale assessment of how much he was worth above and beyond the stated fee.

That's a fun question. Would we tip doctors, lawyers, or psychotherapists?

As you wrote, if we tipped doctors, lawyers or psychotherapists, I believe that each one would probably think we need a psychotherapist.

I am not an escort. I make a decent hourly rate and have done so for years.

My hourly rate is similar to the rates of rent-men type escorts.

Not once has a client attempted to tip me. If one did try, I would be shocked beyond belief and would refuse the tip then regard the client as a fool.

Hi Jeepo1,

This is a deeply personal issue for many, so I'm just going to offer my opinion from both sides as an escort as well as a client.

As an escort, I simply say that gratuity is always gratefully accepted, but never necessary. I charge enough that I don't need gratuity, but it's always nice to have someone express their pleasure by giving me a little extra bank. If they're excessive tippers, then I always try to find a way to justify that extra by maybe giving them a heartfelt hug and saying how sweet they are to think me worth the extra, perhaps even getting their favorite coffee and a paper they like to read.

As a client, I always tip escorts 20% if the service has been as I expected or better. However if the experience was mediocre due to a lack of enthusiasm on the escort's part, they get paid what we agreed on, and not a penny more.

Love and Light,

Master Max
