Launching off an "Ask the Escort" thread, did any of you play organized sports in school or college?

Though I liked being outdoors, romping around the woods, camping, riding bikes all over town and such, I was not coordinated, graceful, competitive or athletic. However, I was just good enough to make the basketball team and just bad enough to really warm up that bench.

And in college, I obviously wasn't good enough, although I somehow ended up on the intramural sports council, setting policy and settling disputes, etc.

I played a lot of tennis and I was actually halfway decent at that. But I went to a small high school -- no tennis team. I think I would have had a good "career" as a high school tennis player with proper coaching and opportunity.

These days, I just take long walks and lift light weights.

High school wrestler here. Guess I should have suspected that my life might turn in the direction it did, but I thought all wrestlers got hard during their matches. Turns out, some do and some deny it.

I "rassled" with friends out in the yard, but that was yet another sport not offered at my school.

8-man football center and tackle, baseball 3rd base and rodeo team calf roping. :D

My dad's theory was you either played sports or you worked more on the ranch.

I played sports, was not great but it sure beat some of the chores at home.

Spring baseball (pitcher), winter wrestler in high school here - the wrestling team was usually a state champ finalist during my years. In fact, the wrestling movie "Vision Quest", starring Matthew Modine, was filmed at our school-lots of extras work for many of us, good money for early 1980's small town life.

I was in the band, and we marched on the football field. Does that count?

I don't know if it counts, but +1 if it does. (Flute for marching, oboe for sit down concerts in High School).

There was *no* football team where I went to college. (It was too small to have a band, for that matter).

I got felt up by another trombone player on the way home from an away game.

I am a klutz and a slow runner with terrible aim. I cannot do a pushup (not even modified) or a chinup. When we used to do the longform NYS phys ed test, I scored so low the gym teacher called my parents in for a talk. (I did much better on the shortform test.) And I was always picked last for sports. There are very few team sports I enjoy or am good at. (Does badminton count?)

But... I'm very flexible, still, and enjoy yoga. I used a bicycle to get around in college. When I could still do low-impact aerobics, I liked step classes. I like using weight machines, particularly some of the upper body ones. I took a six hour, four-credit modern dance class my senior year of college. And I shocked myself and everyone else by coming in second at getting the basketball through the hoop during fifth-grade field day.

Engaging in enjoyable physical activity (whatever that might be) is more important than whether one plays or played a sport.

Absolutely, I was in my college marching band and it was definitely athletic. Doing a pre-game or halftime show could definitely get the heart rate going.

Interesting topic for me. I was very active in sports in high school, eventually winning varsity letters in football, basketball, track and baseball. But I also participated in the band for four years, No, I didn't march in the band when I was on the varsity football team.

I really mention the band because for me sports in college was centered around the band. I participated in the band, which fielded teams in many intramural sports. It was great fun to watch the expressions from all the frat teams when the band won the track and field intramural championship one year. The expression was of course "how did those band f**s best us!

And in my college freshmen year that band played at half-time in an NFL game at the LA Coliseum between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. In fact today is the 49th anniversary of that game. It was an historic game. I'm sure all of this sports forum members know the significance of that game. My 15 minutes used up years ago.

Was it even called the Super Bowl then?

No, I was an effete intellectual. It was my first partner who persuaded me to join a gym to get in shape, not to play sports but to cruise the bars. I was retired before I started playing tennis, and discovered that I loved doing that more than having sex.

Um, February 7, 2016 is the date of the 50th Super Bowl. 2016-50=1966

The first Super Bowl was January 15, 1967.

1967 thru 2016 (inclusive) = 50th Super Bowl.
