I usually spend 30 to 40 minutes perusing this site in an average, not much doing day. About 5 to 10 minutes of that is spent writing the stuff I post here which I try to pass off as witty banter and sparkling repartee.

I know there area lurkers who read and post little or nothing. (Come out wall flowers, add you voice to conversation). So are you basically a reader who only writes when inspired or are you more like the Kow here, regurgitating from one of his several stomachs and sticking it in a post?

I write almost daily, but in my various private journals or notebooks, not here. When I do post here, I have a very specific issue I'd like to see addressed. I learned early on (back in the earliest incarnation of this forum) that my tone (arch? whiny?) subjected me to more critical comment than I cared to digest. I would like to engage more deeply with other posters, but still, at my advanced age, have not mastered both a tone that is true to my being and acceptable to this audience, so I tend to be mostly a reader. I somehow alway seem to strike an astringent chord in my sincere posts here. I am mechanically, fully capable of regurgitation, but don't have the finesse, Mr. Kow, that you have managed. Kudos to you, for your forthrightness, but I have chosen not to attempt to follow the Way of the Kow as a method to be accepted by this crowd.

Hey PK. I like your suggestion that more people add to the conversation. Thanks! I happen to read a lot more than I write. This is one of a handful of sites I check almost every day, but I typically post only when a topic really grabs me and/or when the circumstances are convenient. There are also times when I might have replied to a thread but by the time I got to it, others have already said all that I might have said... so I decide to not be repetitious.

Long time reader now a writer of sorts. If there was a Sports Forum I probably would be more active. ;)

Big day for Steelers' stars- Friday's practice will be a big one. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could make competitive throws for the first time this week. Can he drive the ball downfield on that injured throwing shoulder? He has been taking mental reps but still needs to test out the cannon. And the Steelers simply don't know when wide receiver Antonio Brown will get over the concussion protocol hump, even though Brown is optimistic. The Steelers are OK playing Roethlisberger and Brown even if they miss practice time -- they know the offense too well -- but if both miss Friday's session, the outlook will be cloudy at best for the league's best passing duo. --

Let's not forget option C in which I neither read nor write but merely go to the Gallery section to look at pictures and quietly touch myself in my special place.

I always look at the Gallery first. Then scan the postings from others to see what is going on. I try to post something about 1 a week.

I go through stages. Recently I’ve been posting a bit more than in the past.

I’m not one to post just a +1 or an emoji.

I tend to avoid confrontational discussions.

I typically post only if I think I have something useful to contribute to a current thread.

But, on occasion, I will initiate a new thread. Often they are just to provide info I think may be of interest to forum members.

The thread title is important. If it doesn’t grab my interest I don’t even open it.

I posted one time in the Political Forum a few years ago - haven’t been back.

I will also PM members if I have something useful - but don’t want to just publish for the whole world to see.

Basically a "reader" rather than a "writer." If there is a thread which grabs my attention, I'll read it and occasionally write a response. I think I've begun a thread four or five times and almost always one that will not provoke a great deal of "snarky" responses. There was a time when I'd call people out when I thought a response was, in my terms, outrageous, but no more. Just not willing to try and sift out the crap from the reality.

I also visit the Gallery whenever I visit this Forum and also the thread devoted to strip clubs.

Don't say it often enough but THANKS to those who make this Forum possible. Great Job.

After I wrote the post above I decided to check out how many messages I've posted. I've been a member since 2001 and I've posted 1528 messages---so an average of 150 messages a year, around three a week----more than I would have guessed, but compared to others, I think I still qualify as a "reader".

Any post is a potential landmine -- it is the internet after all -- but the Political Forum is asking for a verbal joust. Best not to venture there unless you are feeling cantankerous. Part of my job is mediation, so many years ago, I spent a lot of time in that forum just honing my skills. It eventually wore me out and I stopped participating in the forum altogether.

Coming back to the board after many years, I have noticed quite a change in behavior. Of course there are arguments and some get heated, but it is nothing like the personal attack bloodbath that it was a decade ago. Without a little sass and a little snark it would get pretty boring, but I think the way Daddy gives people "time outs" is quite effective at controlling the really disruptive behavior. (It also tickles me when someone acting like a child gets a child's punishment.) :)

I have been reading religiously since late August, but only recently joined. I would like to post more, but don’t want to say something if it doesn’t add something to the discussion. I'm also hesitant sometimes because I don’t think this forum (or anything on the internet) is truly anonymous from prying eyes, and I wouldn’t want something I said here to be misconstrued and come back to bite me. But maybe I'm just being paranoid.

My guess is you have a line of people willing to touch you in your special place. Exactly where is that special place and if I just hunted around, would you let me know I found it? By the way, my special place is the front seat of the car.

Despite my 5000+ posts, I spend much more time reading than writing, and a large percentage of my posts are fairly short. It also varies from one time period to another: sometimes I seem to feel a need to respond to almost everything I read, but sometimes I go for days without posting at all.

I am a reader and writer, sporadic on both lately, but mostly a reader these days. Funny, I just started a topic thread a few minutes ago for the first time in a long time. And don't do that much anymore because I find the topics I post don't tend to generate much interest or replies. And the rare ones that get lots of replies usually go off the rails somewhere, either into random, off-topic silliness (usually) or nastiness (rarely).

I'm not doing as much hiring these days either, so I don't come on here as much because of that too. And honestly, about a quarter of the time, I have no idea what in the fuck people are even trying to say. Goes right over my head. There's definitely a subtext to some posts I simply can't tune into.

I once had an escort tell me people really valued my opinion on here as if I were some kind of opinion trendsetter. I thought he was out of his mind and told him so. I'm like the Invisible Man most of the time. And that ain't always such a bad thing.

You guys (and gals) on here have been a big help.

I was in denial about it for a long time. But I've finally admitted it to myself. I'm bitextual!!!:p I'm both a reader and a writer.

And those of us who are tired of the blankety-blanks who insist on writing a lot but never putting in a single hard return: we thank you, Charlie.

Same here. My topics, they usually get Hijacked By Horniness and never get a reasonable reply.
