It's a sad day for clients and escorts. And what a waste of investigative resources this is, at a time when he country is facing a serious threat from ISIS and the lone wolves who follow it.

My guess is that many of the scamers and fake picture posters are running for the hills...and good riddance.

The irony is, those fake pictures and profiles may now be used in Rentboy's defense. If you noticed in the criminal complaint, it was stated that Rentboy "verified" the photos, in order to help show that Rentboy managed and controlled the escorts.

So the presence of fake escorts can help show that Rentboy was just a middle-man website with no control.

I'm not a lawyer. But considering how large Rentboy is and the number of people that have used it, I'm wondering if some kind of plea deal isn't likely.

Even though I'm not hiring I still liked to go to Rentboy from time to time. If it's taken down, I'm going to feel much the same way I did when the Unicorn Club in Indianapolis closed.

I registered ages ago and do log in, but only so I can block people I'm not interested in and I've set up a few saved searches. Never used RBs system to contact anyone.

I think the registration was just email and password and I used a burner email. I don't remember any other verification.

The site is still up. I imagine the traffic is heavy. With all this talk about the future of Rentboy, what about the future of this site, Daddy's? It's mentioned in the official papers. I also wonder if the prosecutors will try to find reviewers here to use them as evidence that the working boys advertising on Rentboy were indeed hired to have sex.

Everything you mentioned in your post is a logical and possible consequence to the indictment of the rentboy personnel.

Considering the time spent in indicting the employees, it is conceivable that the daddy reviews could be demanded, thus further proving the fed's case.

With all the explicit descriptions in the reviews (being used as evidence against Rentboy), and all the discussion we have here, could those running this site face any possible legal repercussions for promoting/facilitating prostitution? Obviously there is nowhere near the same amount of $ involved since neither escorts nor clients are paying to use the site.

An interesting thing here is that because rentboy is funded by the escorts and not the clients, it doesn't have the same sort of behind-the-scenes protection that the old escort services did. There was one in Indianapolis (by the way, I, too, miss my occasional visits to the Unicorn Club) that was raided with much fanfare 15 years ago or so. There were some very powerful men who were clients of the service, and that client list never saw the light of day. As I recall, the owner had the most problems with the fact that some of the guys he had working for him were not yet 18.

(Meanwhile, I still can't get the rentboy site to load--those who are seeing something, are you sure it's not a cached version in the browser on your computer?)

I just have to say it once again: what a colossal waste of time and money.

The reviews here would hardly qualify as "evidence" of anything. They are simply claims--sometimes even rebutted by the escorts being reviewed--made by anonymous writers, with no proof, unless perhaps they videotaped the sexual encounter and paid with a personal check marked "for sexual services."

My understanding of such things is they do not resolve themselves quickly unless plea bargains are reached (i.e. they have a big fish that they want the little fish to rollover on or someone is looking for a conviction and they can care less who they get). At this point, don't even know if those are even on the table or being pursued. I think this will be a long and slow and drawn out process. Unfortunately its likely to snag others and run up lots of costly legal fees. Maybe federal prosecutors are different than where I am from. Here they do stuff like "John" shaming where they will publish your photograph in the newspaper as either a prostitute or someone who hires prostitutes just in hopes that you will do anything and everything to make it go away (plead guilty, pay fines etc etc).

As to the "complaint" that law enforcement should have better things to do with their resources, well good luck with gaining any traction with that one. I am not saying your wrong- its just, they have a seriously poor track record of resource allocation based on what some might call common sense.

Escorting isn't going anywhere. But this will do something between slightly nudge to greatly push it back into the shadows at least for a while. At the very least, I would expect a greater degree of fear and uncertainty on all sides.

You sure about that?

Check the rules pertaining to preponderance.

Prosecutors could present those countless reviews that site rentboy as corroborating evidence of a meeting between a client and an escort.

However, a judge could rule on their admissability.

It's all over NY1 here the Local NYC News channel, "seems" to be focusing more on the "financials" at least as of right now. They inverviewed the owner who said he feels confident that the site itself is within the confines of the law.

I'd rather check the rules for "Hearsay"

Not that I can't see the forest for the trees, but I'm going to go lie and down and put cucumbers over my eyes if this lawsuit thing is vitiating my click rewards. However will I make up the lost income? Now there is a worthy gofundme campaign.

As I've mentioned sometimes before (and it must be getting tiresome), There are some things posted here

that I can't bring myself to "Like", but I totally empathize with and endorse the sentiment, and think this is a brilliant example of black humor. Thank you very, very much for the post.

He took down his Facebook page and he's "brave?" Lol

"Discretion is the better part of valor." Taking down his Facebook page may also render a layer of protection for his followers.

If he were to get into any kind of serious legal trouble, it could also be viewed as an acknowledgement that he knew that what he was doing was illegal.

I didn't really understand it. But maybe it's because I don't know what click awards are.

"Putting up profiles costs escorts $59.95 to $299.95 a month." The NY Times says the criminal complaint states "$10 million in sales since 2010."

Rentboy went mainstream long ago, and it seems its owner, Jeffrey Hurant, didn't care much about the word discretion. He flaunted his creation, and he made a ton of money off the backs of hard working escorts.

It looks like some of the money has been seized from six bank accounts. The lives of those arrested will never be the same.

Sex for money will never go away, and I'm happy about that. I think escorts deserve a better business model and better treatment.
