Lube issues

Okay... so I've been using lube for quite a while now (by myself and as an escort), and have only recently come across this problem.

I've had a number of bottles of lube turn cloudy, with white floaty stuff (and no, it isn't cum) in it after being used. Sometimes it has happened when the bottle is almost empty, and other times when the bottle has only been used once.

The consistency of the lube changes, as though it's been curdled, and it separates and becomes very fluid and watery and doesn't maintain its slipperiness. I tried shaking it, thinking that it needed to mix back up. This doesn't work at all. I don't know if this is an issue of water and silicone mixing (I use both together at times), or if the batch has gotten contaminated with mold, my body chemistry, or what.

It's happened with a variety of lube brands and I haven't found anything online to suggest a solution.

Anyone else had this problem, and found a way to avoid or fix it? This shit is expensive and I don't want to ruin any more.

What brand are you using, Chris?

I came across the same thing on a couple of occasions (the lube turns cloudy). I believe it was with Wet Original and once with something called Elbow Grease. My guess is that the lube turned off because of the ambient temperature or exposure to sun light, but don't quote me on that. I threw the bottle away, because there's no way fixing it.

Silicone and water are not miscible. Silicone lubes are mostly silicone(s). (the one I use is 2 types of silicone with a vitamin E stabilizer/preservative). Water based lubes are generally, a glycerin type compound(s)(which provides the lubrication) and water and stabilizers and maybe some other things(like skin emolliants, fragrance, preservatives, etc. Wet Original has 14 ingredients). I would think the silicone would be very stable - thats why it was used in implants. However, for the water based lubes, if they are emulsions rather than true solutions, if something else gets in and breaks the emulsion you will get cloudiness and separation. Even in solutions, additions to the solution make kick one of the original solutes out of solution resulting in the phenomenon you describe. I would try and ensure nothing other than the original content gets into the bottle for any lube. Steven is also correct that an extreme temp change could break an emulsion and sunlight(UV) can speed up degradation of oxidizable compounds. Once the emulsion is broken you probably can't get it back. You are correct to discard since it is unclear exactly what is going on. I've been using Swiss Navy Silicone for years and never had an issue. Unless you would take the pump off don't know how you would get anything extraneous into the bottle. The bottle is great in that the top locks; I had a mess with a leaky bottle a long time ago, and even though it was in a zip lock, it seemed to migrate out

Quality silicone lube will not have this happen. Swiss Navy, mentioned above, doesn't appear to have this issue. You might want to experiment around with some new product and see what suits you best. I'd also recommend looking into a lube with a dark bottle (to minimize light exposure) like Eros.

You can also switch to a petroleum based lube as long as you're using the right condom. In my experience, nothing lasts longer than an oil based lube, although it can be a real bitch to clean off

This has happened with a variety of lubes, all of them water-based and some have been quite expensive. Regarding the miscibility issue, I don't pour one into the other or anything like that. I might put some directly on me/fingers/condom/them and then a little bit of the other in the same place. But the two lubes never touch at the source, so I can't figure out what is causing the problem, especially since it's a relatively recent one and has never happened outside of DC.

I also have the "leaky bottle" issue. I have had to resort putting plastic wrap in the tops of the bottles because it WILL come out if the bottle is not sealed, even when closed.

I don't have any oil-based lube, but I will try some with my non-latex condoms and see how it works. It seems so messy though.

I seem to recall one of the escorts saying he mixed his own lube from a powder, which made it really cost effective.

I had thought it was Steve Drakar, but since he didn't mention in his reply it must have been somebody else . . .

I hope the escort chimes in and reminds us of the details :)

Chris,

I use a lube called "Liquid Silk" its water based and this may sound odd, but I love it so much I dont use it for j/o. I save it for intense meetings that require a little more intense tools ;) It looks as thick and gooey (yes like the stuff we all love) still after a few years and has never seperated like you say it does. I think it feels like butter when a guy is sliding in and out of me when I use it. You should definitely try it if you are looking for a quality water-based lube. I know I'll never use anything else personally. I know that at many of the more heavy sexually active individuals I know in Los Angeles swear by Boy Butter....I know a few who refuse to even prep for sex without using it....give either a go. I know the Liquid Silk comes in in a pump bottle, and the Boy Butter comes in a few sizes (one of which looks like a mustard squeeze bottle LOL). Wouldn't my mom love to see that in my shower!

Chris, was the lube shaken up at all? I remember one water based lube in particular that was in a smaller bottle that tossed around a lot in my bag - by around half way through it was always a milky white. Still did its job!

I use a water-based lube called H20JO. Love it! They sell a larger size (16 oz I think) that comes in a pump bottle. It is very easy to dispense and makes sure the stuff inside of the bottle never comes in contact with stuff outside of the bottle. They also have a travel size that usually does not leak. I fill the travel size from the pump bottle.

I bought "hand job" lube at the Leather Shop in DC on Connecticut Ave. Called Elbow Grease. Looks like cold cream and comes in a large round jar with a screw top. Several variations are available but wonderful for solo scenes. Rick-rgymjockva turned me on to it. Doesn't answer Chris's question but thought I'd add a comment

Gun Oil Stroke 29[/url] or any of the other lubes meant specifically for hand jobs? They are supposed to be thicker/creamer and longer lasting than silicon or water based lubes that are meant for butts or vaginas.

I bought some Liquid Silk in NYC which looks like cum. It's a hybrid lube and works really well and looks really hot in certain areas. It's not the best tasting stuff, but hey.

Thanks, Chris and Poolboy.

My ideal would be something that looks like a regular lotion but with more slip. That's why I liked the idea of the Gun Oil, but both the Elbow Grease and Liquid silk sound like they'd fit the bill. I might try two of them. (I had thought Liquid Silk was for women based on the Amazon listing, but sounds like it's more versatile.

I ended up ordering Elbow Grease, which looks like a thick hand cream. Liquid silk is on my list too. I'm planning to wait until I use the lube, but I want to have some in my bag just in case.

Sorry for the 'jack; I wanted to avoid starting a thread unnecessarily.

Some of these can actually be purchased at Walgreens or CVS so you don't have to wait. And of course larger cities tend to have adult stores with a wide variety of types, Hustler Hollywood is good for having samples to test, buy the prices are higher.

I use only one marketed lube: liquid Silk.

The rest I make myself: ie. j-lube or k-lube recipes for fisting and for all general purposes I blend my own recipe using organic fair trade condom compatible venues using Shea, cocoa, mango and coconut butters and oils.

Nothing Chemical or artificial in them. They don't spoil, they are all things that lubricate and condition your skin as well as are non toxic and allergic free~

Florida cop tells man who shot him that he'll need a lot of lube in prison

A Florida detective who was repeatedly shot by a gunman last year pulled out a tube of K-Y jelly in court to taunt his attacker after he was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday.

“You are going to need a lot of this,” the cop, who wasn’t named, told a smug-looking Kevin Rojas, 21, in court, according to The Florida Times-Union.

The Army veteran also called Rojas a “coward” and said the incident changed his life.

“I will take those bullets instead of a fellow officer and an innocent bystander,” he said. “When I brought the fight back to you, you ran like a coward.”

Rojas, who was 19 at the time, was driving erratically when the cop stopped him during a traffic stop on March 9, 2016. The officer was on his way to drop his teenage son off at school, WJXT-TV reported.

Rojas opened fire through the cop’s window, striking him in the head and abdomen. The son wasn’t injured, and the detective managed to shoot Rojas before he fled the scene, according to the station.

Police later arrested Rojas after he stole a truck.

In October, a jury convicted Rojas of first-degree murder, attempted manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault and other charges.

His family attended his sentencing and left the courtroom in tears.

To all the Liquid Silk fans above a big YES! It's fantastic stuff and, being water based, you can always make it last longer or go further just by wetting your....hand:p

A site called BuzzPinky.com often has it on sale. It used to be only available in 250 ml pump bottles, but now there is a 500 ml size.
