Just got this note from Lucky: "I don't know how to post photos on m4m, but I would like to see the BlackParty poster go up, the one with the cute guy and the battered face." Well, I live to make Lucky happy (& I agree with him that the pic is hot...it's very Brad Pitt in Fight Club) so here you go:

hehehe....just ask, huh?! Thanks, Rick. (bottomstud never posted a pic for me!)

The Black Party is an 18 hour "pagan ritual" being held in New York City this Saturday night and Sunday. Of course, there will be all night parties Friday and Sunday nights too! My plan is to take in about three hours of the BP and then go to bed! I am told that it is an extravaganza and a spectacle, with 6000 guys in attendance, and at $100 it better be!

Now for the picture, there are some saying it glamorizes violence, But for me, it is undeniably hot. I don't know why.

When I lived in NYC I would go to the Black Party. But please explain the reason for the use of this picture. Frankly I find it offensive. Do we glorify violence of gay men or any men? Why on earth would this be used to advertise a party?

Pagan ritual? I've been to all of the BP's and I have never seen anything approaching a pagan ritual. I have seen public sex, back rooms, snake act, tattoo tent, etc. There was the FF of a pig by a female participant...but this when the BP was at Flamingo (1977).

Now it's just another circuit party and the only debauchery is a back room.

I was three chips to the wind the first time I saw the snake act and I have to say, I couldn't take my eyes off the snake going up the butt for a long time. It was magic.

Calderone is my favorite these days. L-Man, make sure your 3 hours are when he's spinning.

Later.

PS. And glorifying violence. I think not. That's how one my friends or I look your random Monday morning. Pretending you can fly can be fun.

Black Party invites

The Saints' Black Party invites have ALWAYS been offensive. In fact, there was one, back in 1985 when the Saint was still open, that had a drawing of an black African man that had just been shot in the face.. The dead man was laying on the steps with his head spilt in two, really gory and distasteful. The meaing? I have no idea. Perhaps it was an anti-apartide? Or perhaps it was just distasteful.

Well, I guess if you never got turned on by watching prizefighters or kickboxers or wrestlers, then this wouldn't get you hot. I'm not into rough sex but I'd sure love to kiss this guy's boo-boo's & make him feel better. :9

I don't condemn kinky tastes in anyone (mine are certainly queer enough), and I do not believe in censorship of things just because I find them in bad taste. Nevertheless, I want to say that I find this particular advertisement offensive, because it suggests that the brutalization of young men is glamorous. Before I saw the ad, I first heard about it when a well known NYC escort, who will be at the party, mentioned it to me and said that it made him uncomfortable, too.

I respect your impression but I don't see it that way. How do you know he didn't just participate in a professional boxing match? Anyone can read anything into a photo...that's what art is all about. This is why innocent photos of naked children can, in today's world, be seen as child porn. It's all in the mind of the viewer. And in the pic above, this viewer just sees a cute guy that needs some TLC. :9

Hi,

Then perhaps the photo did exactly what was intended--make you uncomfortable. They're advertising the Black Party, not stuff to make your laundry fluffier.

Rick, one reason why you are such a successful escort is because you always can find the positive within the negative (I'm not saying you're a Pollyanna, but you are sweetly enthusiastic, even about being humiliated--you're the ideal lover). However, I don't believe that "art" is quite as value-neutral as you claim, particularly when it is used to advertise something. If this were a heterosexual party, and it was advertised with a picture of an attractive young woman with a face that had been beaten, would you assume there was no implied message contained in the ad, or that the message was that this party would be a good place to find a nice girl who had been bruised by accident and needed your tender care? I'm not planning to protest the party or condemn those who attend it; I'm simply saying that I think there is a message in the advertising (which the producers themselves may not be fully conscious of) which offends me.

I have been thinking about the attraction of this ad for me. It is about raw male testosterone type aggression. How many of us admire guys who are willing to put up their dukes and engage in a fight? I loved the Golden Gloves Boxing matches. For the guy to be cute as well adds to the sexual energy.

I'm not sure I see what the problem is with this picture. My first impression was that it's a guy who comes across as "rough" (having just been in a fight), bad boy, and masculine. Not anything that would turn on a gay guy, right? (Note: I didn't say straight acting!)

Also, black party ... black eye ... get it? I know it's a stretch, but what the hell. :+

  • 11 years later...

Now that we know how to link pix, this is the pic that offended some, enticed others.

For some reason I forgot that if I posted the pic, the thread would go to the top. It's meant to be a memory of Black Parties of yesterday, and I planned to link it to the new thread on this year's Black Party. My plan failed. A black eye to me.

I am glad you posted the thread. The subject is just as important now as in 2003. I have to go with Charlie's comment suggesting if it was a woman who had just been beaten up it would not be sexy to many people. I was posting here in 2003, but do not remember the thread. And it is very, very nice to see Rick's and Lucky's names in the forum again, even 11 years later. Of course, Rick's last post was less than a year ago and Lucky's just a few months before that.

I don't find the image sexy in the least.
