Ever since I started hiring some 9 years ago, I have found the economics of this "profession" very interesting. I have heard very many different view points from gentlemen how they conduct their business. I think some of the big factors is first and foremost Mr. Carter is right at the end of the day economics principle of supply and demand will win out. Second to the always interesting and most confounding man Mr Hagen just won't budge off of his no travel scene and a man of mine and many others fantasy, would it be wrong to say that a couple of other factors besides the economy also helped drive down rates. One 12 years ago agencies had a bigger cut of the market place which would have higher rates. Sites like rent boy, M4rent, etc along with vastly improved Internet, smartphones have given gentlemen the ability to be proprietors of their own business. Clients can compare gentlemen far easier than before. Communications have drastically changed the marketplace. I think most gentlemen can conduct their business right off their smartphone and a pad.

 

The impact of travel into certain locations has impact. There is an affect when someone comes into a city for a few days and charges a bit less. What I find more interesting are those who are a big name, travel into a city, charge rates like they are in NYC do well , I think because of the novelty factor but then upon return do not get the same level of activity.

 

At the end of the day if guys are not getting clients at $300-400 per hour they would lower the rate. So if a gentlemen's rate is high for some of us someone is paying it and probably part of that group of 70+% who does not visit websites like this.

 

Just one more thought, I did pay once a higher rate, yes $350/hr for 2 hours. Yes $700. It was a one time splurge that I just had to have. I also received everything I could imagine in those 2 hours. Was I lucky, I don't know he came with 2 impeccable recommendations. I compare this to another outing only a month earlier, same time frame 2 hours for $450, he has good reviews here and I left so uninspired and asking was it me. There is a huge risk paying the higher amount and that is the big fear, but was it luck or was it simply if you are consistently outstanding you might as well charge it because once you have tasted the really good stuff it's tough going back. Your standards are raised.

Bart, as you obviously are an "experienced" client, I am sure you realize that price has really nothing to do with the experience you get... A fabulous review from client A does not insure YOUR experience will be Fabulous as well, regardless of what the scort is charging. He may be having an "off" day, he may not be into you sexually and cant pretend he is. whatever the case, I believe prices are based solely on what the escort THINKS he can get. If he gets it, thats great for him, if notm I am sure you will see his prices drop. bottom line is the guy needs to put food on his table....Pricing himself out of the market is not a smart business move.

Craigslist had a giant market effect. Young men wanting to enter and leave the prostitution theater quickly, without the commitments rentboy et al. required, came with significantly lowered rates and lower client expectations (no reviews). If he sucked, no loss, just $150. If he rocked, it was win win.
