Well the use of the hair brush and paddle does illustrate that one can do S&M just using household items... but there is something about the color black and the smell of leather than has a synergistic effect on the entire experience... Leather has nothing to do with it. No need for either one to dress up, and no need for items purchased at the XXXstore. Well Rick, you are basically right about that. The Eagle... even on leather night Thursday really does not always possess the atmosphere or the "aura"... even at the New York Bondage Club one rarely sees a true leatherman in the classic sense... Yes guys wearing leather... but not as one would see at events that you mention. Though I was there one night when a "really hot guy of your dreams decked out in leather" was extensively worked over. Perhaps I am over-fantasizing... or perhaps one needs to get to SF to experience the real deal.

 

Ironically since you mention opera... the last time I saw a couple of leathermen in leather gear out and about was at Carnegie Hall a few years ago during a performance of Rossini's William Tell given by Opera Orchestra of New York... two guys in chaps and the whole deal... with one of the guys having "Mr. Leather Fire Island" emblazoned on the back of his leather vest. Kind of incongrous... but hot nonetheless! Swiss lederhosen would have been more appropriate if leather were to be worn!
