Do you eat or drink something that gives you "guilty" pleasure? By that, I mean do you like something that everyone around you really, really despises, such that all you can do is bravely say, "OK, OK, I know you're right, but I like it anyway"?

For example, I love Little Caesar's Pizza! I have ever since their slogan was Pizza, Pizza and I probably always will. It's a guilty pleasure because I don't like to mention it here in the Lounge where "everyone" else makes his own gourmet pizza from scratch. Yes, I mean you, the one who grows his own wheat and ages his own cheese!

Or Campbell's tomato soup with a grilled Velveeta cheese sandwich.

Or biscuits and gravy.

Or boxed wine.

Or . . .

Eating hot wings can eat allot the hotter the better.

watching horror films

eating banana pudding. I make one a week. funny I love it so much my mother ate it everyday while pregnant.

Joseph -- not sure banana pudding counts as a "guilty pleasure." LOL. That's a pretty noble dessert, at least among Jawjans and other Southerners.

Here are a few of mine:

About three or four times a year, I get a strong hankering for Vienna Sausage sandwiches. VS, mayo, bread. That's it. It's white-trash goodness.

On road trips, I like to get those fried pork skins and Mountain Dew.

I almost never eat McDonald's day-to-day in the city, but I will on a road trip and will look forward to it.

In general, I don't have a weakness for sweets. But I go through spells where I really like chocolate milkshakes. Like three or four a week. Or have one replace a meal. Not really a "guilty" pleasure as an overindulgence.

I absolutely crave Costco hot dogs. I live quite near a Costco and stop by now and then for a hot dog and lemonade. I know the damn thing aren't good for me but I love them just the same.

KFC

I only allow myself to do it a couple of times/year but when the urge strikes there is absolutely nothing that will satisfy it like KFC original recipe.

(Followed, of course -- since we're already WAY off any fictional wagon -- by Sara Lee cheesecake.)

LOL. That's exactly what I get. It's damn good for $5.99. And I prefer cold fried chicken these days. With cold aspargus and tomatoes.

Doesn't scratch my itch. Just not good enough. (And believe me I've tried all the options because getting to KFC is a bitch of a trip out of the way.)

My worst guilty pleasure would be sex ... and chocolate truffles. http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr309/Jays15Fan/Emoticons/yum.gif

I've never felt guilty about sex. Pleasure yes, but never guilty. Not if you're doing it well.

Belgian chocolates, or even just Belgians, though. Yum!

Kraft packaged macaroni and cheese

Oh, yesss! <jumping up and down> How could I have forgotten? My brother and I used to urge our folks to go out more often because those were the only times we could have M & C. I got to be a real expert at getting it on the table as quickly as possible. The recipe said to use butter, margarine, or bacon grease. My aunt made it once for us kids and used bacon grease. Blech! Not recommended.

I keep two Botta Boxes of wine in my refrigerator, one red (Malbec) and one white (Pinot Grigio), which I forgot to remove before my last little event. So now I have to rise above various remarks from my cooking club, which makes me wish I had had Almaden. I also crave fried chicken from time to time. My favorite is from Churchs', but the one near me is kind of gross, so I get Popeye's "spicey" with extra biscuits and a side of slaw to be healthy. I eat it in a nearby park because I live in a high rise condo with lots of "busy bodies" who also aren't afraid to make remarks.

Yeah, that too.

A coupel of times a year I get the urge for

-Spam sandwiches on white bread with mayo.

-bologna sandwichs (see above)

-Kraft Mac & Cheese made from the box

- Little Debbie Zebra cakes or Devil cakes

on white bread with mayo.

There's a little midwest trailer park trash in my background too, but this time of year it manifests in the annual tomato bacchanal.

When the tomato plants GO BOOM, there's nothing quite like sliced tomato sandwiches on white bread with mayo (or Miracle Whip) and a little salt & pepper.

It's a little bit of heaven.

It's funny how it seems everybody's guilty pleasure involves food, or at least something that you can put in your mouth (homage to SD who claimed sex and chocolate truffles, both of which I can certainly buy into, although not as a guilty pleasure.) I think of a guilty pleasure more as watching episodes of "The Lair" or "true Blood." Maybe even "Spartacus." Of course there's always the bathhouse by the sea alias Dick Dock under the Boatslip in P-town. Now that's a very guilty pleasure, I think.

I could be mistaken, but it may have something to do with Jerry's original question being: Do you eat or drink something that gives you "guilty" pleasure? :)

You're right, Rick. I had somehow forgotten that part of the post (well into my stiff gin and tonic - not a guilty pleasure but a real necessity in life, I think.) Nope for me no guilty food pleasures - I guess I'm too dietarily disciplined for this thread. Now my little side path - that's another matter.
