I'm planning a repeat trip to Rio and considering booking a hotel I haven't used before: the JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro in Cococabana.  I once stayed at a different hotel in Rio that refused me to bring up a garoto to my room and I'm looking to see if anyone has roomed at the JW Marriott and had similar problems.  Any and all reports or concerns regarding this hotel welcomed.

I think you would receive a salient response if you go to gayguides.com and check under South.   Join and read and follow the requirements, for I think a one time entrance and asking doesn't work.

This segment of that site has lots and lots of viable information.  I joined after the web master left daddy's and created his own website.

I am a frequent reader and poster here mores than there, for I haven't visited "Mother Brasil" for a great while after going there 12Xs and lovin' each time: the culture, the topography, and oh yes, its gorgeous and varied men.

I stayed at that hotel several times.  It is right across from the beach and is just around the corner from the street called Sierra Campos, a street with some great and safe restaurants.

The Marriott is an old hotel, but it is very safe.

Although I did not bring to my room, garotos by the dozen, when I did it was only one at a time.

The Marriott is not going to openly say that you can bring a hustler to your room.  It depends on how you do it.

What I did, without any issue, is the following:

I was a guest at the hotel.

If I previously met a garoto at a sauna, I had the garoto accompany me to the hotel elevator and then to my room.  Hotel personnel will not stop you and ask about the garoto.

If I previously knew a garoto, I made arrangements for the garoto to show up at the hotel and wait in the waiting area where hotel guests often sit.  At our agreed meeting time, I went to the lobby and met the garoto and we either stopped at the bar or we went directly to the elevator and to my room.

I never had any problem with my method described above.

However, you must be careful if you stay at the hotel.  Not because the hotel is bad or dangerous.  It is because there are many problem guys up and down the street who will not hesitate to rob someone if they see the person walking and is an obvious gringo or non-Brazilian.  Robberies do not happen every day, but often enough that you should not walk around with your cell phone showing or other items that might attract a thief.

You will have a great time in Rio if you are cautious and meet the right garotos.

On a side note, I prefer Sao Paulo, a city that I find very interesting, in addition to the garotos.  The one bad thing about Sao Paulo is that there is now only one garoto sauna (Lagoa) run by Rodolfo, who knows that he has the only successful sauna in Sao Paulo.  The sauna is in a decent location and should yield you a good time.  If you go to Sao Paulo, you should use Uber for your night trips around the city.

Have a great trip, wherever you stay,

I remember the hotel when it was being built. Does that make me old as well???

Age is but a number.

One reason I said it was old is because of the effect of the ocean saltwater on the interior paint and wooden doors of the hotel.  The ocean being so close to the hotel causes the ocean mist to accumulate on the interior paint and wooden doors, giving the interior paint and doors an "old look".

A very fond memory I have of the hotel is on an American Thanksgiving holiday, the hotel served a traditional turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce, plus all the expected Thanksgiving accompaniments.
