+ purplekow Posted February 6 Posted February 6 These are niche sports bascially played by those wealthy enough to afford the lessons and the equipment. No doubt they require great skill, but there is very little mass appeal. The ice skating women wil sometimes grab attention and the US Hockey team had that one amazing performance. However, those are not generators of enough buzz to carry over to other winter sports. However, the men's speed skating uniforms do raise some interest from me. samhexum 1

Truthfully, I had never thought about it that way. That’s a very, very interesting - and astute - observation. As for our US men’s hockey team … they won gold IN the US (Lake Placid), and that victory is still pretty special to me. I remember watching it live. Even my father, for whom no other sport exists beyond (US) football, got caught up in the magic. And, truth be told, I’m originally from Rockford, IL, home of Sapporo 1972 bronze medalist (Ladies Figure Skating), Janet Lynn. She fell twice in the long program and still got a medal. Lord, I’m old. 🤣 Edited February 7 by mtaabq Added an important fact. thomas and samhexum 2
samhexum Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7044539/2026/02/13/winter-olympics-condom-shortage-reactions/ The Winter Olympics condom supply ran out in 3 days obviously the organizers didn't watch Heated Rivalry, or they'd have been better-prepared to host a bunch of hockey players.
