Saw on TV the trailer for Downton Abbey - The Grand Finale.   Looks like most of the cast is there, the big issue is Mary taking over.  Hits theaters Sept 12.   The trailer:

Interesting that divorce is a theme in this Downton Abbey movie while at the same time it’s a theme in the Gilded Age.

To wit, turn down an offer from Thomas Barrow, and you'll risk being fired, or winding up dead and dragged back to your bed by the future Countess of Grantham. 😂

I enjoyed it. I'm glad I saw it. I would watch it again. Some funny lines, but the story is not particularly exciting. After what Henry 8th did with his 6 wives, the fuss over divorce in 1930's seems incredibly silly. Oh those foolish Brits. The gay subtext was enjoyable. Mary's hair was a disaster, but Lady Edith looked quite lovely. Many of the actors are looking old and bloated. Pretty incredible this ensemble has stuck together for so long. Just goes to show how bad business is these days.

The review in the New York Time is well written and more humorous than the movie.

I liked it.  It has an ending, though as my partner pointed out it makes sense and seems likely that there should be one more re: WWII, because that truly is when all that upstairs downstairs stuff to that degree likely ended.

I've mentioned before I was fortunate to take a tour of that remarkable building 10+ years ago.  It's truly the star of the show, no offense to the Dame.

I really enjoyed this movie. As some have pointed out, it may not be the most thrilling chapter in terms of new storylines, but as a faithful fan of the series, you honestly couldn’t ask for more. It provides a true sense of closure for these beloved characters, and the ending is both beautiful and deeply emotional. For those who have followed Downton Abbey from the beginning, it feels like the perfect farewell.
