ericwinters Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I'm without a clue here... I'm trying to determine if an airport in NYC connects the airport with train/subway service into Manhattan, with minimal transfers. Thoughts? Are there any hotel recommendations for Hell's Kitchen or Penn Station adjacent? I was looking at 6 Colombus, but I was thinking likely not after reviews.
mike carey Posted January 27 Posted January 27 As the person here least likely to have any idea, I'll start. Others can fill in the details and make the inevitable prejudicial remarks. JFK has a skytrain to Jamaica station from where you can take the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station or the subway (luggage is less of a challenge on the train). Newark has a connector to a station from where you can catch Amtrak or an NJ train (PATH I think) to Penn. LaGuardia has a bus connection to a subway station. I've stayed at a couple of Holiday Inns and HI Express places, and an Embassy Suites place near Penn/Hells Kitchen/Chelsea within walking distance of the station, that were serviceable but nothing to write home about. + Vegas_Millennial, pubic_assistance and ericwinters 1 2

NYC lacks any modern DIRECT Airport to Metropolitan Station trains. @mike carey has supplied a good summary No matter which way you go, you're going to need to transfer from a monorail or bus to train at a shitty uncomfortable station somewhere. LaGuardia is probably your worst option with a bus to the subway being a depressing option when you have any amount of luggage to carry. Public transport from Newark via NJT will be a monorail to Train that drops you in Penn Station. JFK monorail to LIRR will generally, also drop you in Penn Station but there are options at Jamaica Station to end up in Grand Central. If you want a decent hotel adjacent to the train station...do the monorail at JFK to Jamaica and then to Grand Central, where you'll have a selection of better hotels. If you just want a cheap hotel to fuck a hooker and smoke some meth, then Penn Station area is a better fit. 😜 Danny-Darko, thomas, ericwinters and 1 other 1 1 2
+ Vegas_Millennial Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I'll be staying in Midtown near both Penn Station and PATH trains later this year. I've traveled between Newark Liberty airport EWR and Manhattan by monorail/train before. I just booked a future United flight out of EWR and wonder how bad is the monorail operation with the current construction? If my flight is departing from EWR Terminal A, is train from Penn Station to airport then monorail still the way to go, or should I just take a PATH train from midtown over to New Jersey, then Uber the rest of the way? The idea of using the 62 Bus with a suitcase is not an appealing alternative to me.
Guest Posted May 10 Posted May 10 NYC generally requires taking a cab to the city/subways from LGA or EWR. Thankfully they cap them at a flat rate (I think Uber has the same deal) JFK has a light rail that connects to the closest LIRR station to the city, which you can either then walk downstairs to a train and its 30/40 minutes to the city or if it's timed right you can take the LIRR directly into midtown.

I travel through Newark all the time. I always take the NJ transit from Penn Station to the Air Train. Terminal A is only a pain in the ass because you need to board a bus after the Airtrain to complete the journey. You simply need to allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes to your alloted travel schedule. You can also walk there. It's about a 12 minute walk from the last functional Air Train Station to Terminal A. Both are minor inconveniences compared to getting stuck in vehicular traffic. + purplekow Posted May 10 Posted May 10 The bus from the Airtrain to Terminal A runs with good frequency most of the time. Really early or really late there may be a delay. pubic_assistance and + Vegas_Millennial 1 1
mike carey Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Adding my two bob's worth to AZ, PA and PK, I flew into EWR Terminal A and the bus between there and the monorail was fine, just add a little time. pubic_assistance and + Vegas_Millennial 1 1
