I'd like to hear from anyone who's been to Africa. Most countries there have very strict laws (met provider from Uganda but he never spoke about it).

I talked with a Nigerian and he assured me the reality was better than what I heard from the media. He is visiting home for Christmas right now.

I have been to Africa multiple times, as recently as October (Kenya).

I've never felt problems with being gay.  I went with another man, we shared a king bed, no one seemed to mind.

I’ve visited Africa many times, the latest trip was last month. Given the OP’s question as to hiring, I would urge extreme caution.

Various countries have draconian laws against homosexuality. And there is often substantial popular endorsement of homophobia.

Certainly, the tourism sector is important in various countries and as a high-spending visitor, a gay man is welcome. I am out and my visits have been with boyfriends and now my partner. We have not experienced any problems but we are discreet. I’d advise against PDA unless you are very sure of your surroundings.

Feel free to ask me more specific questions if you have them.

Just got back from a trip to South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. There are plenty of guys on the apps and some handsome ones for hire. Limited profiles on Rentmen - it is too expensive for guys in these locations where income is far below what you would pay in the larger developed world cities.  Cape Town, uMhlanga/Durban and Johannesburg/Pretoria were a lot of fun. Very affordable rates but be aware that PreP isn't common so recommend you play safe. Didn't feel like anyone really cared about my orientation, but most guys are discreet so public displays of affection is not common.

I find this statement is true on most continents.  Most European and Latin national healthcare plans don't cover prep either.

I opened Scruff while in Southern Israel about 1-2 miles from Egypt.  The app gave an immediate notification to be careful or close the app, due to be close to or inside a country that has laws against homosexual activity.  Definitely be careful when meeting up with someone.

This screenshot is from January 2024.

I've been to Israel several times, and every time I'm there, I get messages from gay men in neighboring countries who are using a VPN.  Always interesting.
