My friend last posted on October 14th, 2014, so ten years now. Jackhammer91406 started a thread called Friday Funnies, later saying:

I started this thread 4 years ago after I was diagnosed with Leukemia. I really felt like I wanted to concentrate on things that made me laugh and feel good. I never dreamed the thread would go on this long or have nearly 40,000 views.

Well, now it's got a lot more views and does indeed serve as a memorial to one of our finest members. RIP indeed.

Jackhammer was a wonderful and rather amiable individual.  ...met him on one of my trips to Rio de Janeiro.  When I returned to the States and en route to my lodging while spending some time with relatives in the San Diego area, I stopped by his place and spent some time reflecting on our time in our favorite city and other topics.  He's been missed but remembered.

Lucky indeed. You and he were lucky to have caring friends with long memories and an eye for the funny

I have been a user here since 2003. If you look in the document folder on my computer you will find one labeled RIP Jackhammer. The words written on this website, after his death in 2015, struck me so much, I copied it to a Word doc and saved on my computer. I do not know who wrote it, but the words and thoughts are powerful......

RIP JACKHAMMER

A mutual friend posted the news of Jack’s passing this morning. I knew him online for years before I had the pleasure of his company at several Palm Springs’ social weekends with others who also enjoy this hobby. I always valued his company at dinner or laughing with each other at the blackjack tables. Jack was a humble man who had a gift of making people around him laugh and feel good about themselves. Without a doubt, he is one of the finest men I have ever met, and I am honored that he called me “friend.” A true southern gentleman! And even though he did not live his adult life down in my neck of the woods, he never wavered from the decency of his upbringing. Our loss is heaven’s gain. We will miss him much.

I really hope that I will face my final day(s) in the footsteps of your gracious example. Enjoy your rest, dear friend.

I wish I had been given the chance to meet Jackhammer, but I know he had dear friends here in our little sandbox.
