RM not accepting Visa anymore!? What the actual f$ck?

A few years ago I got a premium membership at Rent Masseur.  Then, I think it was within a month,  I had fraudulent purchases on my credit card.  Changed cards and got it all the money credited back from the theft.   I am pretty sure it was from Rent Masseur.

I renewed my RM membership recently and was surprised to see they now accept ApplePay. It worked for me, on the first try. No issues.

I just tried paying the monthly fee for a provider’s profile on RM. Never had trouble using my card before. Today…they asked for identification verification. Yes—I’m using Mastercard. The hurdles are ridiculous.

Has anyone else had to submit identity verification to pay? It seems they want to move to crypto payments.

They asked me for identification verification the 1st time - that was a couple years ago - and I used M/C as well. Seemed a bit much to me at the time, but I submitted to the request. Haven’t had an issue since.

I contacted the webmaster and said I thought it unnecessary. Also did this as the verification:

And did they approve your payment?

Not sure if it needing “approving,” per se. Below from the webmaster…It was either approved or administratively taken care of. Either way, it went through in the end.

The payment verification was requested automatically by the system. It is now removed from your profile.

It's June 16, 2025.  I just tried to restart my membership and saw they don't take Visa. I was trying to do a autorenewing membership. BUT on a whim I tried to choose a one-time non repeating purchase for a month.

AND IT WORKED! My profile is active and confirmed.

So that's a temporary workaround for me. I prefer autorewing monthly as it's cheaper. I might look into getting an MC card.

This would be a great time to launch a competitor site.  Should Mastercard cut off Rentmen as well, whichever site was sitting as a distant #2 would become the de facto leader.  (That's what happened to Rentmen when Rentboy got shut down.)

I'm seriously thinking about it. I've got the professional chops. The problem is the legal side, setting up the proper shell companies and having the site live on a server in a privacy-friendly and escort friendly country. Payment processors are another choke point.. I don't have the financial wherewithal for a legal battle or for the business model to collapse when a payment processor or credit company decides they want to cave to the moral police. Trying to think of realistic/sustainable ways around it... there's always monero (fuck bitcoin, it's not anonymous) but it's a hassle to get outside of a p2p exchange... Not to mention crypto has trust issues and value flux.

Also for those interested privacy.com has plans for making one-off or virtual cards to protect privacy. I'm not sure if you can choose what type of card these one-off cards can be (mastercard, visa, who knows) I haven't tried them myself, but plan to since I'd like to buy a premium RM account at least for a little while to add reviews and stuff.

I was able to use my Visa debit card today by going to one time payments and signing up for three more months of premium membership.
