My experience was very similar, as Joey was one of my first hires as we started to emerge from the pandemic. Possibly your expectations were too high and no matter what the glass ended half full. It's always a good idea to text: "I want you to take the lead", etc. not all providers can't read minds.

Sorry I confused you. I didn’t have particularly high expectations. I meant that I was nervous because it was one of my newest hiring experiences after the extended isolation most of us experienced during the height of the pandemic. I expressed that to him at the beginning of our session, and I believed that as the professional, that wouldn’t have been unusual to deal with nervous clients returning to the business.  
 

And I always tell my hires that I want them to be aggressive and take the lead. We’d spoken about that in advance and like I said, it wasn’t that Joey didn’t give an effort, but we just didn’t have that spark.  To be clear, Joey was perfectly polite at all times, but his heart didn’t seem in it, at least not for me.
