I loved parts of Saltburn.

Overall it’s a bit strained and a "B+" in my book, but parts of it are spectacular.

Agree.  Parts were inspired.  Very few parts, but they're there.

The movie pandered and that became annoying as it went on.

I wanted to see more of the writing given to Rosamund Pike, who delivered it like a fucking pro.  She knew the assignment.

The gossip rags claim Timothee Chalamet was considered for the lead in Saltburn.  If so, I believe he dodged a bullet.   I thought it was awful.

I thought the casting was great, as well as the film overall. I agree with @nycman B+  I don't see Chalamet convincing me that he's a young aristocrat.

To me the film was Brideshead Revisited meets Running with Scissors

I like The Talented Mr Ripley, both the book series and film. Gotta check out Saltburn, then.

Off topic I know. But I remember having a probably unhealthy obsession of my own in college with the blond stud muffin guy in my frat. Nothing to the level of these two movies, but I would take any opportunity to be around the guy. We became friendly, if not friends. Once, to my great surprise, we ended up walking together alone through a wooded area of my college town. He jumped up an embankment, then became a little worried about how he was gonna get down. I looked up at those dreamy blue eyes and replied, "Don't worry, I'll catch you." He then jumped down and, for a brief moment, was in my arms. My left hand had caught him at his navel, and I remember lingering there as long as I dared on that glorious treasure trail. The moment was over and that was that. But the memory of that brief touch stayed with me for years.

came across this thread and #s 1 and 2 are not available on my standard Netflix and Hulu subscriptions, so #3 it was, "All Of Us Strangers", on this quiet Tuesday evening......

just finished and, wow, I did get a little misty!......when a movie is well-made, well-photographed, well-acted, well-directed, well-scored, the whole bit, that can happen when it's supposed to!......(there are other movies where that was also supposed to happen, but I somehow didn't care in the least)......

gotta admit I stopped halfway thru and went and read the wiki article on the movie and read the entire plot to the end!......just to make sure I was up on all that was happening, you know.....it helped and I enjoyed the rest of the movie in a more-informed way.......

it's very much a fantasy, the viewer eventually realizes, but not in a silly/sci-fi/hocus-pocus/rainbows-and-unicorns way.......just a dreamy, moody reconciliation of a guy's life.......some other viewers may also need to consult the plot at the wiki article!.......

a couple very mild, non-gratuitous gay love scenes (just doesn't seem right calling them sex scenes!) should be acceptable to all but the least enlightened audience.......(for those still wondering, I think there was one sideways shot of a butt, some upper torso shots, and the suggestion of oral sex occurring, but no full nudity or anything close)

admittedly, it's incredibly sad right to the end, so be in the mood.......so many recent gay-oriented movies of the last several years have been full of melodramatic angst and silly attempts at profound thought.....none of that here.......just a clean, quiet, well-crafted flick.......
