But I've heard stories of cats or dogs seeing their "hooman" packing a suitcase, interpret it as a looming abandonment, and then pooping in a corner as a mark of disappointment and disapproval. These beautiful creatures are remarkably perceptive! Mine are vividly aware of when I’m packing for a trip. While I’ve never had to clean up poop in this setting, they have partially unpacked my bag twice registering their disapproval. They are extraordinarily perceptive and sensitive! wsc, + Charlie, + sync and 1 other 2 1 1

My dog also reacts to signals that I might be going out without him, like changing my clothes during the day or even loading my pockets. But he never retaliates by pooping or peeing in the house. His reaction is always to try to hide somewhere, but of course he always chooses the same places, so I have no trouble finding him. wsc, + sync, Nue2thegame and 2 others 3 2
Luv2play Posted August 15 Posted August 15 When I had my two dogs and was leaving the house I would say to them as they accompanied me to the door “I’ll be back soon” . They would both put their heads down but accepted the situation. When I got home and opened the front door, they would hear me and two excited heads would appear side by side in the kitchen door window. This window was in the top half of the door that shut them out of the front foyer. They would then let me open the kitchen door and greet me with tails wagging madly. Same routine that lasted for years. + azdr0710, + glutes, wsc and 4 others 2 2 3

For some reason this has never worked for me, and has only resulted in rude stares from people in the immediate vicinity. + azdr0710, wsc, Nue2thegame and 4 others 1 1 5
+ glutes Posted Wednesday at 02:29 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:29 AM I have come to realize that the dogs I have owned have bound my family & friends together more than any other experience that I have shared. I have unconditionally loved, cared for and mourned them together. Reinforcing human bonds is a very real benefit of pet ownership. + Charlie, Luv2play, Nue2thegame and 1 other 2 1 1
