pubic_assistance Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Great news. Your chance of being murdered in Rio are still high but decreasing ( somewhat ). Violent deaths of LGBT people in Brazil 2022 | Statista WWW.STATISTA.COM In 2022, the number of violent deaths of LGBT+ people in Brazil decreased in comparison to the previous year, totaling 273 occurrences.

The murdering of gay men in Rio is somewhat lower this year ( so far ). So now's your chance to not be murdered by a deep-discount Brazilian escort. Silly me, but I think paying three times as much to hire a hot Brazilian man in the U.S. who will be less likely to murder you, makes more sense. Deadlift1 1

StackPath XTRAMAGAZINE.COM The article says 242 queer and transgender people were killed in 2022 out of an estimated 19 million queer and transgendered citizens. The study was done by a gay organization and I don't know how it was conducted. But I agree that 242 deaths are 242 too many. We have no idea if any of them were tourists. One good stat is that the number is a 12% drop from the previous year. Bolsonaro, the notoriously anti-gay president, is out of office so lets hope the number continues to decline.

Since Brazil brings in a lot of tourist dollars, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an effort to make that information difficult to obtain.

StackPath XTRAMAGAZINE.COM As mentioned in another thread, the overwhelming majority of these occur in areas outside of the tourism realm. Although gay tourists are being robbed — street crimes and crimes of opportunity in more intimate settings — they aren’t being murdered for being gay in Zona Sul.

Additionally, are 117 and 202 quite far from each other? I'm curious about how you decide which one to stay close to. I wouldn’t try to stay close to 117 - no decent hotels there & it’s not a neighborhood geared towards tourists. Lots of better hotels very near Pointe in Copacabana. Travel time between the two saunas depends on traffic, which can be horrible. Within average traffic, maybe 10 minutes in Uber. Or, the subway/metro is an option with stations very close to both saunas. Uber is so inexpensive in Rio tho, that it’s not really a factor in decision making. I prefer staying with easy access to Pointe & then going to 117 when a change of scenery is required. Others may disagree, but I prefer hotels in Rio just due to extra security and not disturbing the locals in the place they call home. Most better hotels will not allow guests in the rooms though.
