+ glennnnn
I'm NOT talking gay erotica here, those books where the only action is sexual. I'm referring to literary novels with a developed plot and characters who have more on their minds than cumming ASAP. Novels that have sex scenes that enrich, but don't smother the action whether it be romance, mystery, adventure, etc. Clear? Do you read these rare books that engage both your brain and your cock? A good example is Josh Lanyon's early mystery series about book seller Adrien English and his hot love affair with a homicide cop. (Best read in order) The mystery is engaging and well written with enough very detailed fuck scenes to keep your foreskin rolled back all night, including important details such as who's cut & who's not, who's the top, who swallows, etc. It's porn....but not pap. It's the basic difference between "Raped by My Uncle" (20 pages) and ",Lady Chatterley's Lover". ( 350 pages) I want to be able to picture the sex, but solve the mystery too. Seems most gay porn is rather formulaic (1. They kiss 2. They swap blowjobs 3. They fuck 4. Happy ever after.) Or go "cozy". ("I felt his hard length against my hip. The next morning..." I just want to be satisfied or at least titillated as well as entertained. Did "his hard length" feel like an Italian sausage or one from Vienna? most gay lit is crap! i feel better now. pubic_assistance
Not that I search out gay novels but I've picked up a few to read over the years. I would say Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" was definitely gay erotica (Ignore the film. They cut all that out of the script). Evelyn Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited" is a gay story of unrequited love. Quite romantic. + glennnnn and + WilliamM 1

They have a nice balance of sleuthing and fucking.😁 TonyDown
misterhumphries
I highly recommend the Benjamin Justice mystery series by John Morgan Wilson. Wilson is a gay author in West Hollywood (I believe). His main character is gay, a bit of an anti-hero -- not squeaky clean -- but the mysteries were riveting. Shame is Wilson wrote only about 6 Justice novels before abandoning the series.

Smokey
A good series of mysteries featuring a gay insurance investigator; complex characters and a great sense of place - Southern California in the 70’s and 80’s. This is the first of twelve: https://www.goodreads.com/series/52364-dave-brandstetter + WilliamM and + bashful

Smokey
A one-off quick read: Backtrack by Joseph Hansen. A teenager investigates his father’s death. Hard boiled detective writing but with sharp wit and a coming of age and coming out story all tumbled in one.
