Movies you walked out of because they were so awful

The Fish that Saved Pittsburg.  All time crap.

you mean Dr. J's oscar-worthy performance couldn't save it?

Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner.  An early scene depicted the amputation of a man’s hand in a moorish prison.  I considered the scene gratuitous violence, and found it offensive.  I left, filling out a form asking for a refund of the ticket price.

Possible new topic:  Movies/Plays you sought a refund for.  That would be Punch Drunk Love for me. (Hey!  I just remembered another movie I walked out of!)  I saw it with one of the friends who walked out of JRB, and the first ten minutes were so abysmal that we left and actually got a refund because it was so early in the movie.

Came close twice in the 1990s.  Once was 'Shadowlands' starring Debra Winger (only stayed because the friend I was with insisted we stay). I left with a migraine.

The other was 'The Mirror Has Two Faces' with Streisand. I wanted to leave after thirty minutes, but figured it was going to get better so I stayed. It didn't. (And I'm a big Streisand fan). The movie should have been titled "The Theater Has Two Exits".

Youtuber and WWE star Logan Paul said he walked out of Oppenheimer:

“I walked out of Oppenheimer,” Paul said to shock from the Philippous and his podcast co-host. Asked why, Paul rambled, “I didn’t know what they were trying [to do]. ‘What are you doing?’ Everyone’s just talking. It’s just an hour and a half, 90 minutes, of talking, just talking, talking.”

He added, “It’s all exposition. Nothing happened.”

Oppenheimer. A sadly flat performance from Cillian. And only Nolan could take the most important event of the 20th Century and make it boring.

Past Lives. Is this even a movie? Two leads with zero charisma. No plot. No conflict. No movie.

Dune. If this is the state of film making, I'm ready for AI to take over. We've accepted worse and worse acting, as well as worse and worse writing until we'll accept anything.

I've walked out of anything when it was still going on just once, and that was stand-up comedian Barry Diamond. He was offensive to only me, and I expressed my displeasure by leaving.

Worse, many many years later, I attended a comedy show with "regional funny talent", no names on the bill. Who comes out? A much older, grayer Barry Diamond.

And yet you still looked younger than springtime!

Only film I walked out of before the end was "Lincoln", but I had to because of a fire alarm.  Was a false alarm and went back the next day to watch the rest (for free).  Was a GREAT movie.  I usually research movies well enough before going so I don't encounter an urge to leave.  Same for theater (Broadway, Off- and Off-Off).

Shadowlands was always on my radar because I love DW and isn't it about CS Lewis?  I love SOME of his writing.  Some.  Glad to know I can skip it, sorry you had to suffer it.

The last film I walked out was in 1986, when as part of a school trip, the year I was in went to see Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and I walked out after a scene where they were served traditional Asian cuisine (such as sheep's eyes soup) as I thought it was reprehensible.

Totally racist, shocking that so many of us were cool with that then.  AND a very very well-made movie.  Just as well-made as Raiders of the Lost Ark.  The musical number in Temple of Doom is a brilliant movie onto itself.

I almost walked out of the most recent Ghostbusters movie.  Much of it was pretty close to painful to watch.  The only thing that kept me there was the knowledge that the best special effects would be in the climax toward the end.

Are you sure you weren't watching a porn video?

I walked out of "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover" after maybe 15 minutes. A naked Ewan Macgregor was the only thing that kept me from walking out of "The Pillow Book."

I can't think of a movie I walked out on, but I thought Twilight was just ridiculous. When it was revealed that his skin sparkles in the sun, I couldn't help but laugh - it just seemed like one unintentional absurdity after another. I turned to my companion and apologized for inviting her. It remains my standard for bad movies - like, was it just bad or was it Twilight-level bad?
