All Things Palms Springs 2023…but mostly lodgings.

nycman

Recommended Posts

Now that the dates for the 2023 Palm Springs gathering have been announced,
I wanted to start a new thread on lodging options in Palm Springs.

As a disclaimer, I don’t know anything about Palm Springs, but have always
wanted to attend the event. Over the years various factors, including logistics
of travel from the East coast, a total lack of knowledge of the local scene, and
a world wide pandemic, have all conspired to thwart my desires.

I know there have been discussions before, but times and lodgings change.
Not to mention I had a hard time finding the old threads. So I figured it was
time for a reboot in anticipation on 2023!

Personally, on the sleazy to luxurious continuum, I tend to favor the nicer options.
Nonetheless, I have no desire to stay in a gorgeous but sterile resort either. Any
and all suggestions, options, and opinions are welcome.

I also invite you to veer wildly off topic and discuss all things Palm Springs.
That is after all 95% of the fun of the internet. So feel free to discuss your
favorite restaurants, pools, bars, escorts, hiking trails, etc.

I stay at the Hacienda.  Yes, they are expensive and sedate.  But service is great and I connect with local and traveling providers to overcome the sedate.

When I was planning on attending in 2020, I made a reservation at Inndulge.  When the pandemic started, it was too late to cancel and avoid fees.  I think at that point I had already paid for 50% of my stay.  I asked if due to the pandemic they could do something for me like a credit for a future stay.  They would not consider doing anything.  That made my staying there in the future difficult.  At least when I cancelled my air, I got a credit that I eventually used on another trip.

I agree. Any place or business that screwed me over in the pandemic
has lost my business for good. I get it that it was a difficult time, but
it was a difficult time for all of us. A credit for a future stay seems
like a smart business compromise to me. Take my money and run?
Yeah, I’ll keep running….away from you….for good.

I'm really sorry you got treated that way, TeddyBear and I have no explanation for it. I'd feel the same way if I'd had that experience. I do have to say that my experience with Inndulge and the pandemic was completely different. I was in the same place, booked with 50% deposit collected for 2020, and they gave me full credit for that. When it turned out that I couldn't get my second COVID vax shot in time for the 2021 weekend, they actually allowed me to carry the credit over an extra year and I was able to finally use it this past April (2022). Reports like yours always make me nervous, because even though everything worked out well for me in this particular case, what about the next time? Inconsistency is never a good look for a business, even one I like as much as Inndulge.

Stayed at Inndulge and Canyon Club (RIP) last Trip and recently stayed at El Mirasol and will be staying at El Mirasol this time. I would say that El Mirasol is like a cheaper INNdugle. Its not sleazy like CCBC or All worlds and the staff is really nice.

Thank you Epigonos for your report. Living on the east coast I have only been to Palm Springs a few times. However, I realize that the visits have been spread over many years. I first stayed at InnExile around 1990. I've since heard that it went straight and then gay again. Does anyone know its present status?

I also stayed at and enjoyed InnDulge under previous ownership. Last few visits have been to CCBC. Yes it's out of the way but I had a lot of fun.

Lastly, the Palm Springs gathering may be just the push I need to visit again. Gay bars are vanishing everywhere as have my favorite gay resorts in Fort Lauderdale. I think it best to enjoy them before they're extinct.

I used to love Inn Exile over a decade ago. That was definitely a hot spot when Warm Sands was thriving with gay clothing optional resorts. The property is now All Worlds Resort…which used to be across the street from Inn Exile. I believe once the entire All Worlds production company sold or lost their Adult Entertsinment empire, the resort changed owners. From what I’ve read online, it is not an ideal place to stay. The property is rundown, zero hospitality and poor management. It may have changed in the past year, but there are many red flags.

Are gay resorts disappearing in Ft Lauderdale or just changing over?

Sadly, disappearing. Elysium near Sebastian Beach became a straight hotel and then the Windamar. When I walk by and see all those branches pruned away I can't help but think of what they concealed, day and night.
