What do those designations signify? The status of membership? The quality of reviews? Their likelihood of photo verification? If it's just a reflection of their ability to purchase a membership level, why should we care?

How much his ad costs.

Platinum and gold designations are advertising gimmicks which generate additional revenue for the operators of the website.

I think I remember a provider telling me that the level of ad (platinum, gold, basic) determines the pop up display order which clients see in order to browse ads.  The hierarchy appears to be 1) Platinum, 2) Gold, 3) Basic.   This would be important to a provider who’s working in a major city where there are loads of (pun intended) pages to scroll through.  A provider based in Des Moines, Iowa and who doesn’t travel could probably save himself some money by purchasing a basic ad.  A provider in NYC would probably want a higher priced ad so his ad doesn’t appear on page 14 out of 15.

From a client perspective the type of ad probably isn’t that important.  From a provider’s perspective I’d imagine it’s more important and a valuable marketing tool.

While "how much the ad costs" and "generates additional revenue for RM" are technically true, in return for paying a fee the escort's profile is displayed more prominently in the list of search results, as @Beancounter stated. The benefit for the escort is self-explanatory: greater visibility. As for the client, they will see the Platinum and Gold escorts first. In a city like New York or Chicago this can be a bennie, as there are hundreds of escorts to look at.

To answer the OP's question, their metallurgy is meaningless to me.
