If it were easy money, everyone on the platform would be making bank....  And most aren't.  Most end up giving it away in an attempt to get traction.

Finding people to film with, legal releases, editing, lighting, social media.  There's nothing easy about doing what the guys who make $50k+ a month do on OF.

With so many people flooding the platform, it's also getting tougher for guys to cut through the noise.

Not at all easy money. That's the mistake a lot of guys make when they decide to get into OF - they think it's just going to be some hot sex and posting once in a while but you have to keep people interested. Videos of a model jacking off every day quickly get boring and they have to promote and produce their own content constantly as well as trying to get subscribers. It's not at all easy. Plus, most masseurs aren't interested in doing porn. Totally different thing. And many escorts prefer to remain as anonymous as possible also - only doing it for their clients rather than putting themselves on the internet. It takes a LOT of time and energy to do an OF.

To have a good Only Fans page -- one that's worth subscribing to because new, worthwhile content is regularly added -- requires work.  I guess from the outside it might look like "easy money" to some since part of the work involves having sex, but recording and editing that sex so it's interesting to watch requires effort.  Even without subscribing you can tell a lot of guys' pages are not worth subscribing to due to the infrequency of content being added.  Some guys add content regularly but it's more of the same -- here's another photo of me, here's a quick video of me jerking off, etc.  I doubt that many subscribers stick around for more than their initial subscription period if that's all they are getting; I know I don't.

in theory I agree that with so much free porn it doesn't make a lot of sense. I think the ones who interest me are the ones that are good at social media to suck you in. An interesting personality (and being hot of course) makes people more interested because they feel like they "know" the guy and want to support him. I totally agree that some nude pics and a bunch of repetitive JO videos makes it unlikely you'll keep subs for more than the first month. And I think pricing your subscription has to be a tough decision. Too high and no one will sign up. Too low and you're leaving some money on the table. But I think a lower price will get you more people who are just curious so you get more volume. The only guy I've kept subscribed to posts frequently with other performers so it's lots of action. He's an adorable Asian American guy. His white boyfriend does the filming and gets his dick in on the action frequently. I have a justforfans page. When I couldn’t do much massage work during lockdown the justforfans was helpful. 

It does take effort and focus to produce decent content and to promote it. I use proper lighting, 4 or 5 cameras, and a professional editor. I also post a full length (20 to 25 minutes) film every 2 weeks.

The effort and skill it takes to do social media marketing for OF, particularly on Twitter, is underrated and a separate FT job.

Making good promo content on Twitter that can get good numbers/go viral is one thing (and difficult to do consistently unless the content/editing is good), but making the promo good enough for people to subscribe to see more and not just consume it like free porn seems very difficult to pull off.

I think a lot of the allure of the OnlyFans or JustForFans is the interactivity. You can communicate in "real time" and as a subscriber there's potentially more customization that a performer can do based on consumer feedback. With all that said i only have subscribed to one "channel" during Covid which is totally devoted to a specific kink i love and beyond that don't typically watch free porn regardless. 

And personally do want to have 100% actual physical meet-ups//hangouts.

On RentM many more responses from prospective gentlemen ( which i have no doubt is being done completely in good faith, especially during pandemic lockdowns ), are more commonly asking if I'd like to explore them making customized personal video's for purchase.  Unfortunately now though i sometimes worry that when i decline those offers they might take it as a sign I'm not interested in meeting in the future.

Not that I haven't watched a lot of "free porn" in my day, but keep in mind that a lot of "free porn" that's available online is only free because someone has posted it without consent of the person who created the content.  If some guy really floats my boat, I'd rather pay for a month or three of his OnlyFans page so I can see all of his content without it being edited, without it having reduced picture quality, and without having to scour "free porn" websites for it.
