Any feedback on Tesla Model 3 automobiles?

I'm in the market for a new car. I have been a fan and owner of Lexus for 10 years, but not completely excited about any of the 2020 models.

I've been interested in Tesla for a year now but unsure what the pros and cons are with an electric vehicle. I drive a lot - about 25,000 miles a year. I live in a complex and shared garage so I would not be able to "charge overnight at home".

I live in LA so charging stations are not hard to find. My concern is if I happen to be in an area that doesn't have charging stations? Atleast wth vehicles run by gasoline, there are gas stations pretty much everywhere.

Are Teslas reliable as well?

@orville this subforum is open to almost all topics.....it's one of the reasons I look in here often and it's great to get opinion from non-compensated forum members on anything......I'm sure Antonio is looking in many areas besides this one for opinion.....and I'll bet we have a few Tesla owners right here.....

Thanks for posting this article. I haven't seen this and at first my heart dropped thinking a low score was "poor" until I read otherwise. And yes, I have done a lot of research but wanted to ask any Tesla owners for their feedback. I appreciate it!

You posted an article, not your personal experience with Tesla, which is what I suspect the OP was asking for given that anything can be written on an online article. Between this forum and an electric cars' specialized forum, where do you think he's gonna find the best information, hence where do you think it's more appropriate to ask? Don't reply, I already know your answer because sometimes we just see what we want to see. I'm just shocked by how in these technologically advanced times where all the information in the world is available at our finger-points, there are people lazy enough to ask in the least appropriate places, yet they can't run a search in Google as simple as "Tesla Model 3 Reviews".

I have spent several weeks with a Model 3 and the S. I enjoyed both, but found I'm not quite ready to jump into full-e.

The layout of the Tesla is easy to get used to, but I personally missed tactile buttons and switches. I don't love touchscreens and their constant need to be cleaned off. The seating was not anywhere near as comfortable as the other vehicles I have owned (however, they had 'cool' design). I can't imagine taking long trips cross-country on them. Autopilot was interesting, but there are several other carmakers who have their own autonomous driving programs. BMW's new system on iDrive 7 is every bit as good as what I experienced with Tesla.

You're in a city where driving- sometimes for long periods- is a must. Added, you also drive 25k+ a year and don't have easy access to installing a charger. Do you have the ability to run an extension cord from an outdoor outlet and plug it in that way?

You don't have an ideal situation and it might cause more stress than going with a gas engine until these circumstances change.

If 'going green' is the issue, there are many great hybrids now on the market.

I own a 3. Was one of the first I think I have car 11 thousand something.

I absolutely love mine. Any issues I have had Tesla has sent somebody out to my house to repair it. (Has a couple super minor issues)

I am not a car guy but I can’t rave about it enough. It’s comfortable to drive, the auto steering is fantastic, sound system is great and the car drives very well.

I have not met a single model 3 owner that isn’t in love with their car.

I will say Elon’s shenanigans have made me start questioning supporting Tesla But the car is second to none in my book. Feel free to ask specifics. Oh also it is the fastest fucking car I have ever been in. Like being in an airplane during talks off.

I don’t disagree with the findings about the quality. This was the couple things I needed to get repaired. I think especially early on their automated process was faulty and there lots of issues with windshields but I believe they have fixed most of those issues.

@orville – So am I to understand you that unless it’s directly related to escorting, the topic isn’t germane to this site? That makes, by your interpretation, upwards of 90%+ of the chitchat on this site inappropriate.

I don’t understand some members on this forum who feel it’s their responsibility to comment on a post or conversation’s appropriateness to this site, forum, or thread. My two cents: let the moderators moderate.

To the OP – I wouldn’t want an electric car, although I suspect it’s going to be the (not to distant) future for the majority of us.

When it comes to autos I'm an extremely late adopter. I bought my car in 1976 when I was 15. Every car since then was a stick until 2 months ago when I finally brought my first automatic. It's a great car but damn I miss rowing my own gears! And no, paddle shifters don't count.

You were spot on - there clearly is a good amount of Tesla owners on this site and with great feedback!

And you let everyone express their opinions. This is a free world. I never censored the OP but rather suggested what he could do instead. You don't censor me, keep your censorship to yourself.

Feel free to go on sharing your opinion. I’m sharing my opinion of yours. To suggest I’m censoring you is rich. In fact, I’m advocating the opposite – a broader understanding of what counts as discussable matieral for this site. It would seem to me, you’d be the one to limit the breadth of topics – not me.

That’s all I have to say on the matter at this point.

Ok then, feel free to open a thread on quantum physics or menstruation. Good Lord!, the things I have to stumble upon ? I suppose everything and anything is possible in the online world. ?

  • 8 months later...

Must have been in Tiger Woods mode.

Two men died after a Tesla vehicle that authorities believe was operating without anyone in the driver’s seat crashed into a tree Saturday night north of Houston.

One of the men was in the front passenger’s seat and the other was in the back seat of the Tesla, which was traveling at high speed along a curve before it hit a tree around 11:25 p.m. local time, Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said in an interview.

“Our preliminary investigation is determining—but it’s not complete yet—that there was no one at the wheel of that vehicle,” the constable said. “We’re almost 99.9% sure.”

I put a deposit for a Tesla 3 the first day they were accepting deposits....and got increasingly frustrated with production delays and gave up. There are more electric vehicles coming onto the market to choose from. I test drove the VW ID4 (SUV) over the weekend it was pretty great. I just bought a (used) BMW I3 with the Range Extender option (small gas engine adds range). Volvo has their X40 recharge, Audi e-tron, Kia Soul, Kia Kona, Chevy Bolt etc. In 5 years there will be dozens of electric cars to choose from, and prices will normalize. And, the charging station network is finally being built (VW required to spend $2B as part of their $10B settlement over misstating auto efficiency). Point is, Tesla no longer has the market cornered and there are plenty of options to consider for electric cars.
