I realize we have limited sports fans here (and I'm certainly a limited sports fan) but I'm surprised there's been no comment.

The Chicago Cubs won the NL Central Division and advance to post-season playoffs. This makes twice in the same decade, so it's a bit remarkable. Or an accident.

Of course, they don't stand a ghost of a chance in post-season play. But, hey, it's the Cubs. Hope springs eternal! They say everyone wears a little Cubs blue in October.

Think you have stereotyped the audience here saying there are limited number of sports fans. I am one. Just because a team hasn't won a World Series since the Wilson administration doesn't endear them to me.

I am still recovering from the Mets collapse and as a result have moved on to football.

My greatest joy while in Chicago last week was walking up to people in Cubs T-shirts and caps (which means 90% of the population) and saying either, "What are the Cubs?" or the preferable "The Cubs suck!" Both earned some great reactions; now, if only Derek had videotaped it all... :p

I am one of those limited sports fans but I knew the Cubbies could and would do it. I am going against all odds here but I say they are going to go all the way. Can't wait to rub it in Boobers face about the Cubs, he's a White Sox fan. I think when the Cubbies go to the World Series I might need to make a trip out to Chicago. And Rick don't tease the Cubs fans. They are probably some of if not the most devout fans in any sports out there. If it had been me you were teasing I'd taken away you Lucy collection. *wink*

Greg

Who cares about the Cubs? What about the miracle in Philadelphia? I've been waiting since 1964 for recompense for their notorious end of season collapse after holding an apparent lock on the penant all summer long, and now the same thing happens to the Mets, and the beneficiary turns out to be--the Phillies!!

Oh, you're definitely going against the odds. ;-)

There isn't a team in the NL Central that has a record good enough to make a post-season wildcard berth, and that includes the Cubs.

I hear the city of Chicago is having some sort of public pep rally/celebration in the next day or so. Normally they wait for a team to actually *win* the championship, but hey it's the Cubs. Celebrate what you can! LOL

Having lived here in Chicago now for many years I've grown used to seeing people pretend that the Cubs have a chance. But how could they possibly succeed? They are under a curse, the worst kind, cursed by a goat!

It's fun when Chicago teams do well. Entertaining watching people dance on the roofs of moving buses, and basically riot in the streets.

Oh, I think Cubs fans are realists. I actually think that, on some level, we'll be DISAPPOINTED if they actually win it. LOL

The Cubs are predictable. They can go gangbusters, beating everyone in the league, until there is only one thing they could possibly fuck up. And then they fuck that up with exact surgical precision.

I think we live for that butt-clenching let-down more than anything. ;-) THAT we ALWAYS can count on.

I was in Wrigley in 2003 the first time they brought in the goat. It was surreal seeing 38,000 people on their feet cheering a goat. That was the "Bartleman" year:

Nay say all you want but I am in the process of booking my hotel and air for when they beat Arizona and head to the World Series. In fact I am going to wear my cubs jersey and cap tomorrow at work }( And if any Mariners fan dares to say something I will ask them what ranking they had }( GO CUBS!
