I was looking at setting up a session with an escort who said he was in West Hollywood, which would come in at about 10 miles from me. RM keeps saying he is 5.9 miles away. And the RM Map feature shows his location somewhere out in the water off Santa Monica.

How accurate is this? And is this a cause for red flags?

a four mile difference? I wouldn't be worried. He may not have been very specific with his location in Rentmen. Lots of guys I see just put "Detroit" which puts them at the city center. I did get a laugh out of one guy who did get specific with his location, it was right in the middle of a cemetery. He said he'd done that intentionally just to see if people noticed.

I, too, look at the map feature to try to figure out where guys are because I prefer going to them rather than hosting, but as Poolboy wrote I think most guys simply give a general location. There are lots of guys that show up in the same general area of the city where I live, and I doubt all of them live within a couple of blocks of each other; it just happens to be about the middle of the city.

I was looking at someone's profile recently and his location had him a bit off shore into the Pacific Ocean. Somehow I doubt he's living on a boat or barge a mile or two from land.

I think it goes by zip code and therefore may not be very accurate in places with lower density like the LA area.

Several guys advertising in Chicago show up as living in the Jackson/Dearborn subway station. The city and the CTA gave it a beautiful renovation and it is close to everything, but I doubt they live there. I mean, the 2,159,579 people who traversed the station in 2017 would be enough to dissuade me from living there. I like the hustle and bustle of the city, but not inside of my home.

Maybe it's like Platform 9-3/4 in Harry Potter. Run at the wall hard enough and you find yourself in a luxury condo development, with amazing views, jacuzzis, and champagne dispensers in every apartment... LOL

It seems to me that up until recently, when you mapped a guy on Rentmen you got a reasonably specific area of town. I.e., in LA, I've seen some show up in the downtown area, mid-Wilshire, Beverly Hills, Valley, etc. Now, all I ever get is a broad, wide map of all of LA, even for guys in WeHo. And zooming in doesn't help. Something's changed.

Home location or where someone says they are located (for hiring purposes) wont always correlate with where they are GSP wise. Every time we login the app/website ask us if we would like to share our location which benefits clients that utilize the “near me” feature which then organizes providers on the grid similar to how Grindr would, by GSP location. So while he said he was in West Hollywood, he may have been elsewhere at the time he messaged you.

Additionally, one may manually enter a physical address for business/visibility purposes but may not actually be in that area.

Oh, trust me, that is NOT the case! LOL

I've been able to zoom in and re-position the map with no trouble.

gee, I guess one can always just ask the provider.....

if I don't already know the guy, I'll ask incall or outcall? and then make it as easy for him as possible if he's only outcall.......

I agree.

I get the provider to confirm the cross streets ASAP, never making plans based on RM location info.

Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice........can't git fooled agin.

If you zoom all the way in on the map for one escort I hired, it his exact location including the side of the street. I know because I used Google maps to walk there when I saw him.

I can zoom all the way in on a guy who lives in my building and it shows his location as being several blocks away. Maybe some guys put in specific coordinates when setting up their ads and others just provide a more general area/zip code/neighborhood.

My point was, before one didn't have to zoom in. And, yes I can zoom in, but to where? If I don't know the general vicinity of town where the guy is located, I'm zooming into...nothing.

Following is a screen snip of the "Map Me" tab of a West Hollywood-based escort as it displays when you click on the tab:

See the icon of the guy? That's the general vicinity of where the escort says he is located.

Upon zooming in, the following displayed (I zoomed seven times):

The little guy now points to the the street where the escort is located.

That does not look like "nothing."

Of course, accuracy is not guaranteed, but it wasn't guaranteed before, either.

The would make sense to me

I have seen no difference in the accuracy of the feature before and after the change to the way it opens. When I've looked at profiles in Sydney and New York, by way of example, I get the same proportion that after zooming in show a CBD location near the Town Hall, or somewhere near Battery Park as those that show what appears to be a more specific street location elsewhere in the city. Whether either is accurately reflecting where they are, or a location they have entered manually is impossible to tell without calling them to ask.

I noticed this change a few weeks ago as well and don't care for it at all. Before, IF a location, other than generic city downtown view, was provided by the escort, it was usually pretty accurate. Now, with the required zooming, I haven't found it as helpful. And then, there's also the situation where an escort has relocated, but failed to update his profile. Since most of my hires were incalls, I used this feature often to get an idea of how doable a visit would be. Now it seems best to just ask. You already have to ask about rates anyway.
