I knew a masseur who would choose whether to keep the appointment based on seeing the client walk up through his peephole. He told me about this practice to make me feel like I was ‘chosen’ or met some unknown criteria. I think he expected me to be grateful. After working 27 years in thr Massage and Bodywork industry,  I keep my rates low, you shouldn't have to chose between groceries and a massage. I make enough to pay bills and vacation. 

I recently got a massage from one of my favorite traveling massage therapists.  He charges $140 for the hour and I told him that he should be charging more for his massage.  I mean, the guy has to pay for a hotel, gas and vehicle maintenance.  He literally travels from coast to coast.
He is an older guy that still looks good and his  massage is really far above average.  But he countered my suggestion, explaining to me that although he's struggling to keep his rates low, he leaves it to the client's experience if they want to tip him.  If you didn't tip this guy for the massage he gave, you'd really be clueless of what he does for your body.
From my experience, 95% of the guys on these sites may be hot, but they are NOT good and they try to charge more and give less.  So, if you get a good massage, at a reasonable price, tip the guys that strive keep thier pricing rooted in reality.  When your body is tense and you're needing true bodywork, they are the one's you'll be looking to - Not the pretty boy rub, tug and go guys.

This might be an example of cognitive dissonance in the provider.
I've met a few full-service providers over the years who like to feel that they are 'different' from the 'usual' 'hookers/ sluts/ [insert choice of contemptuous epithet]'.  Sometimes this is based on them supposedly having a  'different attitude', sometimes on them being 'selective' who they see, sometimes on premium pricing.  And sometimes for no reason at all that I could discern!
Presenting oneself as a masseur, rather than a full-service provider, bolsters the 'not a hooker' mindframe, even if the advert talks about erotic massage. After all, what does that mean, exactly? The provider can tell himself that he's different, selective, yadda yadda, and that the client is booking - massage!  If more happens, the provider tells himself that it was because he chose to allow it to happen (which may not be so far from the reality, actually).
An enquirer explicitly seeking 'more' - so that 'more' is baked in before the client and provider even meet - is then like lobbing a grenade into the carefully cultivated, carefully defended, "I'm different" mindset.

I saw him about 6 months ago, looks like he has jacked up his rates since my visit (I think I paid like $130). The massage was excellent, he had a variety of lotions/oils for massaging different areas, he was very thorough, and not a clock watcher. No deli vibes with me, but we established pretty early on that we were both tops, so I wasn't expecting much, especially at that rate. 

It’s up to the provider when the upsell happens, if it happens at all. Some do it before the session starts, but most will bring it up in the middle of the session, which I really dislike because, in my opinion, it kills the mood.

I had a situation a couple weeks ago where the provider tried to negotiate his rate lower to get me to agree to a session.  His rate was nearly double the average of the guys I see and just politely said that I appreciated his time but this is outside my budget.  He then cut $100/hr off his rate to sweeten the pot, but I politely declined.  I simply said I don't ask providers to negotiate their rate because if you are charging that, you obviously can get it.  I finished it by saying I think it wrecks the vibe of the whole experience if you are unhappy giving up your fee.  Again I thanked him but I don't think he was happy with me.  

I always make as clear as possible what I'm looking for and if they can accommodate for the agreed price. If I get up-charged, I don't see them again, no matter how much I liked them. I don't appreciate getting swindled and when they lose clients, they'll hopefully learn a valuable lesson in business ethics. I've had several come to me for repeated sessions and I clearly state why I'm not interested based on the previous experience. No whining, promises, or begging will get me to try again with the same person. When getting burned, we should learn our lesson the first time! There are plenty of nice men out there who provide what we are looking for and I'm not despearte either. Many of these younger less worldly "escorts" need to realize that just because we may be older and hire, doesn't mean we are pathetic or desperate. They need our money far more that we need their services!

Stop complaining. Hire the lower cost providers according to your budget, or suck it up and hire the higher cost providers (if you really want them), or don’t hire at all. It’s that simple.
It’s not the providers’ problem if you can’t pay or don’t want to pay what the markets support.
Save more, make more, or hire less often. Simple as that.
We could boycott gas because we think it’s too expensive. That won’t make the cost go down because global demand remains stable. We all have direct and indirect transportation needs which contribute to that stable demand. Same with hiring!

The up sell really annoys me.
