Most of the escorts I know simply love escorting. Money, sex, trips, friendship, being appreciated, knowledge, experience, etc. Obviously I'm talking about men who decided to do it because it was their choice and compared to other jobs they had it gives them a lot of free time to enjoy life while making a lot of money.

Wear and tear? Try working as a store clerk and get ready for boredom, work in an office and you'll worried and busy even after 5 PM when you're home.

Obviously in a relationship an escort won't be available all the time even if he's open with his partner about it. Life is about choices!

Only the good ones like you like you last so long specially now in this competitive market!

Wunderkinds Kristian and Athan (Athen?) were a couple when they moved to LA back in the early Hooville days.

Rick and Derrick were the original internet escort couple

I used to hook up with escorts and sometimes become friends when I was young, no dating though. Not so for the last 10 years.

Still very beautiful of course, and a very sweet guy, I thought Alec's athletic frame, when he first started escorting, hung better on him than the packed-on-muscle one he had when he returned to escorting. Just my personal taste, wondering if anyone feels the same?

I can speak to having a partner not in the business. My partner and I met at a sex party, on our first date (a week later). I told him I was an escort, and he said he didn't believe monogamy. Three years later, our primary issue has been my time away from him when I have multi-hour clients. Early on, he would have just hooked up with a guy while I was with a client (he was an amateur slut as opposed to my professional level ?). However, over the last 2 years he's suffered from IBS, which has impacted his sex life... Making him feel lonely when I'm working with a client. Even though he understands the economic need, it's still an issue we're working through.

Palm Springs is much larger than Key West, Saugatuck or P-town (where I met my spouse 52 years ago!), and of course it is more accessible from a major urban area than those three; there are even residents of Palm Springs who commute to work in the L.A. area daily. I have never been tempted to try out Eureka Springs. If you make it to PS next year, I'm sure you will be welcomed.

I don't want to get into another deep debate about this, but as I've already said in previous threads...this will come and go and simply become another news story once the next big headline makes way.

Obviously what's happening is a terrible thing that is going to shake up the biz, but so was 9/11, the 2008 recession, swine flu, and the AIDS outbreak (before my time).

Look what happened after AIDS: the biggest porn names of all time were created, online male escorting took off, and here we are now.

Once the restrictions are lifted, people will be back to their way of doing things. When the pulse nightclub shooting happened, gay bars in Orlando didn't see crowds for awhile. Eventually people came to terms and started getting back into the swing of things.

But to answer your question: I plan to keep on trucking with it. I do need to make some changes here and there, but it's not an overnight process. You don't just stop working for yourself, and suddenly going to have something on the ready. As has been the case before this, I plan to situate myself in small markets and avoid the big cities. Recently laid off guys are coming on the scene expecting this to be something to fall back on, so we're going to see people coming and going.

As of now, all of my regular clients want to see me...but we're in this stronghold of social suppression, and it needs to be lifted before anything can change.

I've actually been to both of them considering I do most of my tours by ground, and end up in different neighborhoods. I've been all around Boulder City, Henderson, North Las Vegas, heck even St. George Utah lol.

But I didn't know those areas were bigger (which I suppose you mean more populated) than the Coachella Valley. I did always feel Palm Springs was a little getaway area. Twin cities would be Key West, Provincetown, and I even hear of a place in Michigan called Saugatuck or something like that. But it's supposed to be a bit smaller. Then you have Eureka Springs down in Arkansas which claims to be the most gay per capita residence nationwide. But they compare it to relative number of gays per the population.

That said, in all my travels there's just nothing like palm springs. It is the adult Disney world. This year wouldn't of worked for me anyway because I went last year and again in November, but next season I'll likely make a return or go around my preferred October/November before or after gay pride (hint hint) @Oliver

That’s good? to know. But that could also indicate 2-3 years. However, like I had a conversation with Bryan Knight, I’ve been in the industry for over 10 years and have also seen it all. Even though each “event” is different, or more extreme, it still impacts in some way.

For example: the Trayvon Martin/police riots, Orlando Pulse, and Presidential election events all took its toll temporarily on sex and the business in general. It just changes everybody's vibe. In Orlando, I ended up going 3 weeks and only had 1 client, when the Pulse nightclub thing happened.

Eventually, and I’m sure at this point people can’t see because they’re so fixated on things “getting worse” and the “apocalypse”, but perhaps this too will simply become “news” down the line. As in, something that stays on the news for months, until the next big storyline replaces it. Then people move on and forget about it. That’s why I don’t buy into mass hysteria.

At this point, people have forgotten about Y2K, 9/11, the Isis beheadings, the border wall, the Police beatings, the tornadoes, the refugees in Syria, the Hurricane Irma, the Shootings at Mandalay Bay, global warming, the antibiotic resistant gonorreah...and now its all about this virus now. And somehow now, THIS is the end of the world ?

While, the secrecy with which the Chinese government first treated the virus was probably unhelpful, from what I have seen the real problem has been the unusually long period for this virus where people are contagious but asymptomatic, up to 3 weeks I think. It pretty much made any containment attempts pointless since they had no idea how far it had already spread.

I was getting into the swing of things around mid-2003. By then, things had normalized and the industry was chugging along.

A lot of that was due to how popular Hooboy's website and board were: No one had really done anything like that before and the amount of traffic that was coming and going was just gargantuan. HB and Daddy worked their asses off to catch and contain that lightning in a bottle.

Banks and corporations only responsibility is to make money. Everyone is expected to bootstrap in times of crisis but most people, due to their life choices, dont have bootstraps. Your right banks and corporations dont need to be saved and should be allowed to fail but we dont live in a Vulcan society where the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. All future bailouts just like all the previous ones are going to be the same because there is just 1 party and it has 2 different names.

Not the same. I’ve been touring Arizona and Palm Springs for years. Mostly Arizona. Despite them both being desert communities, they’re different. You can’t do in Tucson, what you can do in Palm Springs. The gay resorts, etc. It’s also less expensive in Tucson.

Climate/Geography wise, Palm Springs can be similar...but one of my resident Phoenix friends says Palm Springs has a more refreshing nighttime feel than Phoenix. All the cities in the mountain west are the same difference, so to speak. Las Vegas isn’t Palm Springs, Palm Springs isn’t Phoenix.

That said, Scottsdale is unique in that it’s a bit on a higher elevation than Phoenix, so you get more of the Saguaro Cactus ? growing in that area. Makes for a nice, upscale rustic feel. On my last visit to the area in October-November, I felt more at home in Tucson...whereas Phoenix seems to have become a suburb of LA (similar to how some say Milwaukee is a “suburb” of Chicago).

FYI, that satellite of the Mayo Clinic is in far Northeast Scottsdale, about 15 miles away from the walkable, restuarant- and gallery-laden section called Old Town Scottsdale.

You might want to think twice about Scottsdale and think about Central Phoenix. If you lived in downtown Phoenix, you could walk to cinemas, the art museum, opera, several live theaters, and everyday shopping. You would be equidistant from two medical centers and the currently under construction Creighton University medical school. Phoenix is an island of liberalism compared to Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Fountain Hills.

Metro Phoenix has terrible air pollution that rivals Los Angeles and Chicago. If you have allergies, you will become familiar with the local pharmacist. You will be visiting them every couple of weeks when you buy your Claritin-D.

one of my best friends lives there, actually right over the line in Paradise Valley. His area is walkable and is filled with those charming mid-century ranchers with decent lots and the iconic 6x6 paned picture windows. Another favorite district is Arcadia, the hipster area. Organic juice bars, 4th generation coffeee places, and lots of fit, attractive residents. While not a Camelback fan (too many tourists) Squaw Peak is a great hike. There are also miles of bike trails along the canals and down by Papago. I agree that the air quality isn’t all that great. In the summer, a three hour drive takes you to Flagstaff and high altitude, cooler summers and fantastic mountain hiking. I considered buying a condo there a few years back, but with two places already, I didn’t need or want a third. Of course, now I can barely afford the two!

I've lived in or been connected to the Scottsdale area since age 12......no daylight saving time observed!!!

it's just a very large suburb of Phoenix, but, of course, has the upscale vibe and reputation......very clean feeling, sensible zoning laws, well-maintained streets, and some walkable neighborhoods (usually near downtown Scotts)......much of the vast northern reaches of Scotts (developed in only the last 20-30 years) is little more than subdivision after subdivision, strip mall after strip mall, with little soul (albeit usually upscale) and a hop in the car required for any little errand......but the higher-priced homes in north Scotts ($3 million and up) on larger lots (an acre and up) are certainly attractive and desirable....lots of golf courses, tennis, resort atmosphere all over.......and lots of fast traffic and self-important drivers in the winter and even the summer......

the dry air is the clincher for me......such a plus......except in July and August (the humid summer rainy period low 90 high 105), the outside is usually spectacular.....wide swing in day/night temperatures because of that low humidity......three or four periods of cold and rain every winter for a couple days each (low 30 high 50 at the worst in those days) with fireplaces in full use......usually low 40 high 70 in the winter........May and June are the hottest and driest (low 70 high 110).....AC drones on all summer day and night......

you'll need to be ready for low density and the desert atmosphere.....few trees, wide-open views, a somewhat "brown" tone to everything including the buildings.....there are areas of highly-irrigated grass and artificial lakes, but that is increasingly considered extravagant and inappropriate.......

formerly one of the legendary great spots of the world for lung and asthma concerns, the entire region is now one of the worst for that because of the proliferation of non-native plants and vegetation (planted by homesick midwesterners over the years, so the legend goes).....

I'd concentrate on a spot near downtown Scottsdale (charmingly called Old Town by the visitors bureau) because of the walkable nature and great array of businesses to choose from all close by.....some older 50s-era neighborhoods here, newer upscale condos and a few condo towers (up to about twelve stories), apartments, time-shares, the whole bit....and quick-paced traffic in the winter.......

as expected, real estate prices are among the highest in the state....only neighboring Town Of Paradise Valley (zip 85253) is higher (much higher)......

what are you main concerns and preferences as you near retirement???

Right. And it is good practice to have a backup plan. However, I feel every since this pandemic has arisen, there's been an aura of judgement in the air towards sex workers, occasionally from other sex workers and even people like @jjkrkwood who’s supposed to be a supporter.

This isn't directed at any one here, but I just don't like the hypocritical factor. It doesn't make sense to condemn those who choose to see clients during this time, yet the same ones condemning, are willing to take the same risks I’m taking to their health at any other time ?

I think we all; as gay men who have sex with other men, sometimes with no condom, sometimes for money, sometimes anonymously in a bathhouse, or from the internet...should all be understanding of one another's individual circumstances, not pointing the finger. If I wanted to hear that, I'd go to gay pride and hangout with these guys:
