Suprisingly not, actually. In the mid-1920s she married some European aristocrat and he took over the management of her career. Big mistake. He persuaded her to leave MGM and that angered Louis B. Mayer, who essentially caused her to be blacklisted in Hollywood. Had that not happened it is likely her career could have continued for several more decades.

But no photos of his Fertile Crescent 😉 -
That's Canadian dollars - still high but not as bad as it could be.

Not necessarily - he is their son, and while I can't imagine paying for the defence of a child who shot me, perhaps the parental protection instinct outweighs what he did, in their minds. Or maybe there is more to this story that has not been made known yet - perhaps the context is different from what has been reported. Not that violence is an answer, but there could be mitigating issues we haven't been told.

Well said - it surprises and saddens me that you would even need to explain that. -
Such an amazing recovery for his parents... great to see that.

A couple of hours outside Toronto it's $1.63 per litre ($6.15 per gallon) right now, which is bad enough, but I was reading the gas hit $1.79 per litre in the Vancouver area where I used to live ($6.75 per gallon)...

Hopefully it will encourage others too.

I'm really glad you aren't spiraling. To answer your last question, I've never really been approached by anyone - unless it was in an obviously joking kind of way.
-
You are not out of everyone's league - don't even suggest that. The concept of a leaugue is completely subjective and how a person ranks varies from age to age and generation to generation. What you consider a 5, I may consider an 8. You know that, though - I'm stating the obvious perhaps. Maybe take a step back and concentrate on the qualities you value, and then get involved in groups or situations where those qualities abound. You sound like things may be spiraling, and that concerns me.

I think the vast majority of people on this forum would hope that you know you are not alone in feeling how you're feeling. Of course none of us can know exactly what another is going through, but please know I wish you strength and hope, for what that is worth. Perhaps an opportunity will arise where someone will show you that you have value to them separate from what you can afford to pay. It seems you might be in a real emotional rut, and that can be hard to escape from without support. Is there a doctor or therapist you would be willing to speak to? It might help a lot. Take care

Bumping this to see if anyone knows how Anthony is doing? I never met him but he seemed very kind in messages and the posts he made on this board. Hoping he is well, and happy doing whatever he is doing these days.

While such meetings are of a transactional nature, I wouldn't assume that money is the only reason why someone would want you to feel desired. I have been told that those of us who assume such things often miss encouraging signals and flirtations from others. Then there are those flirtations we might not see because they may be coming from someone we are not attracted to ourselves.

Would you mind detailing the experience via PM? If not, no problem

I think Kathy Bates or Holland Taylor could have been good choices as well. -
Condolences to you as well on your recent loss.
-
I have heard that too. But then I remember Mae Murray, the silent screen actress from the 1910s and 1920s who was called "The Girl with the Bee-stung Lips". She didn't seem to have as much of an allergic reaction to the bee venom as people do today... lol.

Condolences to you, and thank you for sharing. I would only say that it is important to give yourself time to move through your grief. The process is different for everyone. Try not to burden yourself with concerns about the future and possible loneliness - you have suffered a significant loss very recently and this will no doubt colour your current thoughts. Let time bring some healing and then consider how you might wish to be involved in various groups or communities at your own desired level of comfort. Take care of yourself.

I can't help but think of all the meals that could buy for those who are hungry, and how many homeless people that amount of money could house safely and securely.
-
Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry things are so overwhelming at the moment. Is there an opportunity for you to take a sabbatical or a leave of absence from work? Might it be possible to restructure a bit so that you could retire early? At the very least it's really important to give yourself some time each day - even if it is only carving out 15 minutes to go for a walk or to sit in the yard. It's a commitment to yourself that is needed. We cannot be all things to all people even though we may think we can or should. It isn't easy. Especially for those who are care-givers and supporters by their very nature. But you can do this.

Hey there... at least he has an actual human as his avatar rather than just the first initial of his user name, unlike many of us including you. Nobody needs to justify why they choose a particular avatar or answer questions about underlying meanings. But back to the original post - the story provides yet another example of society becoming increasingly entitled, and less able or willing to consider and accommodate those matters that do not augment their own self-importance, such as the funeral for a fallen officer.

Thank you! You understood my point exactly. And like you, I would also love to do an Antarctic and a High Arctic cruise some day.

"The Gilded Age" on HBO

To me British period-dramas set in the UK have a cinematic quality that those set in the USA don't seem to have. I suppose Baranski - who is admittedly a great actress - is supposed to be the equivalent to Maggie Smith in Downton, but so far I think the character falls short. Nevertheless I will keep watching because the blend of fictitious and historical figures is intriguing to me, and it is set during a period of history that I've been interested in for some time. -
Well done! But you should come up to northern Ontario where 8-inches is just a dusting - lol.
