Could be that he advertises all the time? My adverts are up all the time, whether or not I’m working. I was away in Greece and in France earlier this year so wasn’t available for weeks but the adverts stayed up. I just told clients who enquired that I wasn’t available until after I was back. 

If you keep activating and deactivating your advert on some sites it lowers the prominence on the site. Also it’s just simpler to advertise 24/7 and decline requests for times you’re unavailable. This is an interesting thread and still early enough that I can agree with everything that has been posted.
For myself, COVID and all the changes it wrought seemed to have wrecked my libido and desire to hire. I was lucky and was able to be fully vaccinated by end of February because of my work. I think, maybe fatalistically, that for everybody who is going to live some semblance of life as it was pre-2020, we all have a date with this virus. I'm just not rushing to hook up with it.
