  1. Lots of flights from Paris. Fly one in as fairly slim pickings on the Caribbean islands - listed ones anyway, I'm sure the bars in various spots could provide what you're looking for but not the safest way.

Or nearby ish you have the Dominican republic and Venezuela, again fly someone over.

  2. Seaspiracy

    Apparently it's quite hard hitting.

I've heard it was financed partly by a vegan charity, not sure if that is true.

Also some who have watched it have given up eating fish.

I suppose a similar documentary on the animal/meat farming industry and abattoirs would have a very similar effect.

  3. As a Brit it was a very sad interview to watch, the majority of the country had high hopes for them at the time of the wedding.

It will be interesting to see how the palace responds. The Queen will take her time and want to know all the facts first. She will not like the assertion that there were racist comments made and will want to know who said what.

The interview though I feel didn't really question H&M when they made various claims and seems that many who watched it have already acted as judge and jury. She did marry into a family with centuries of tradition and although she says she wasn't prepared or told about the many and quite onerous responsibilities, Harry does contradict her later to state he explained what that life would entail.

Admittedly it can't have been any fun at all for a free spirited young woman in love. It was probably still all a great shock.

I personally don't believe there is institutional racism within the family. But of course any racism is unacceptable but they need not have tarnished the whole family (except when the two most senior members Harry later stated weren't responsible) with that brush. By not stating who it was they implicate everyone else. Was that deliberate.

But there is often another side to a story and in the U.K. we are innocent until proven guilty, so all I'd like to say before we rush to judge is hear out the other side and keep an open mind.

Finally, it seems, the time is right for a major British TV drama about how the AIDS crisis hit the early 1980s London gay scene.

We’ve come a long way even since the launch of Russell T Davies Queer As Folk.

In 1989: RuPaul’s Drag Race would have been inconceivable on mainstream television.

It's a Sin has much to celebrate but also much to warn about and mourn, and in the midst of a different kind of virus it offers unexpected resonances.

  5. EastbayMike

What is interesting and I agree it's a slow burn of a film is that Thomas Mann who won the nobel prize for literature and was deeply interested in psychology is intent on digging deep into human nature and as a gay man understands profoundly the insecurities that represents, especially in that era. I believe the film relays the meaning he intended to express from the book.

His better book though is possibly The Magic Mountain.

I'm a Bogarde fan too, so I come at this film from that angle, but the themes of hubris, humanity, desire and longing not to mention the developing pandemic which makes this so prescient.

It's a film best watched more than once, sorry to say Eastbaymike!

  6. The Dig.

A very British kind of melancholy soaks this film, about the remarkable discovery in 1939 of an Anglo-Saxon longship beneath mounds of earth near the Suffolk coast. It’s a story of two ill-matched halves: the first starring Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan, the second more sexed up, with Lily James opposite a smouldering Johnny Flynn in RAF hero regalia.

  7. Having owned various hospitality businesses listen to Benjamin Nicolas & MikeBiDude.

Solely gay establishments are fast becoming a thing of the past.

I'd say a place that does great food could make a profit, if it becomes fashionable but the profit on alcohol is actually not as much as people think.

A gay friendly bar/food led business has a good chance but as always it's about location and the money to acquire and run it.

  8. You have a great list of guys @JulianLondon.

MayI ask about the site vivastreet? I’ve not looked at it before; have you found the guys to be reliable and the pictures/text accurate?

I’ve figured out some of the abbreviations used, but not OW, OWO and PSE - can you say what these mean?

It's a site that has been around a pretty long time. Reliable but not full proof. Both sleepyboy and rentmen are more guaranteed. But it's worth a try.

Ha yes I have no idea what they mean either, I kind of only check out the obvious ones I'm interested in. But I would like to know too.

  9. Just to add to your post @JulianLondon

This is reported as the largest mass vaccination ever done by the NHS in the UK. The vaccine is being distributed to 70 major hospitals that will act as hubs. Those aged 80 and older are being prioritized as well as frontline NHS and care-home workers. The TV news is reporting that this first wave of vaccinations will only be completed by the end of March.

It's worse than that sadly. Though the more and varied vaccines that are rolled out worldwide the greater the efficacy of them will be. But no one should be in any doubt it will still be a long process.

  10. Unfortunately you have to go to London to hire him. He was banned from coming into the USA for 10 years because his cellphone was inspected and ICE discovered the true reasons of his frequent trips.

Didn't know that, very interesting, thanks Marylander

  11. He’s even got the gold signet ring on his pinky, which is uber preppy. The Rolex watch, though, may be a little too nouveau-riche.

Don't think Rolex is new money so much any more, it's quite a classic. Plenty of bling brands that a younger generation would no doubt prefer. Probably bought for him by his sugar daddy ;)
