  1. Having found out as a young man that that's the way the French do it, I started doing it. Eventually I came to see it as an unnecessary affectation and gave it up.

We have friends who divide their time between SF and Paris. When they come for dinner, they always save their salads to eat after the main course.

After living in Spain, I got in the habit of eating salad or vegetables after the main course. I disagree that it's an affectation. Consuming fiber at the end of the meal (well, except dessert) just makes sense, because it aids digestion. Even at some fancy restaurants, when I ask that the salad be brought out after the meal, they will mistakenly bring it out before the main course, presumably because habits are tough to break. I don't really care if the server might think I'm weird or pretentious. I'm the one paying, and salad at the end of the meal is a reasonable request.

Whether or not it's an affectation is a function of why you took it up. It isn't an affectation for the French because it's just what they do. It isn't an affectation for someone who has health concerns. But in a young man who took it up because he'd heard it's what the French do, it's an affectation.

I’m in the salad after main course camp or “Continental” as it is sometimes called. My Sicilian grandma always served salad after main and it’s what I grew up with. It’s certainly a healthier way of dining as the fiber does aid digestion. I’m assuming that’s why this practice developed in Europe over the centuries.

However, this practice short circuits a US restaurant very easily. Many servers find it odd, the looks I’ve received when requesting salad after the main have been funny at times. Rather than get frustrated and to keep from messing up the kitchen I’ve just accepted that the salad is coming out first and then will let it sit there till the main arrives and I’m done with it. Then I’ll switch the plates.

Yes, servers have asked “are you going to eat the salad” and I will explain all over again that I will after the main. Maybe it is an affectation on my part but it’s also the way I grew up and it’s my preference when consuming a meal.

  2. Please mark your calendars for the next Forum DC Gathering, January 19, 2020.

As with past DC gatherings, the event will span the MLK weekend, and coincide with Mid Atlantic Leather (MAL). Here is the link to the MAL reservations page: https://www.leatherweekend.com/

The dates for MAL are January 17- 19, 2020. The DC Forum group brunch will be held on Sunday, January 19. The venue is secured and details regarding timing and location will be sent via email on January 11.

There will be a range of get-togethers, culminating in the traditional brunch on Sunday. This event is open to Forum Members including clients and providers.

This event WILL happen, and you can start making arrangements with confidence. Please RSVP by January 4 if possible. However, we’ll continue to accept replies right up to the event.

For those of you who may not be interested in MAL or the leather scene, not to worry! Traditionally the DC gathering has coincided with MAL because it's a long weekend and many of us are in town, but the forum gathering is otherwise independent of the leather activities and is welcoming to all forum members. You may choose to sample some of the MAL activities, or go "whole-hog", or alternatively forgo them completely. That's up to you.

If you're interested in attending, please send a direct message to me @ArVaGuy. As the date approaches, we'll get in touch with each member who has expressed interest. If you have general questions related to the event please ask in this thread.

I’m excited to be continuing this fun tradition and hope you'll join. Thanks.

  3. I have enjoyed the several DC get togethers I have attended and I was wondering is anyone was willing to undertake setting it up again this year. I do not live in DC so that makes it a bit difficult for me to handle, though I would be willing to lend a hand if that is an inducement.

Nate SF has done a great job in the past as has Legendary Dave and I believe William has also helped out.

It usually is the Martin Luther King weekend at the time the leather convention is in DC.

@purplekow @mike carey Yes, I plan to host a MAL weekend brunch for 2020 and should have posted something earlier. If anyone is interested in attending please send me a PM through the message board.

  4. Is this real? I have always found him to be super hot and would consider flying to LV just to meet him:

    https://rent.men/PierceParis

I’m a fan of Pierce and have exchanged messages with him via Twitter. He has said that he doesn’t escort in the past. He lives in LA.

As for the “angle of the dangle” of his penis, that’s due to torn ligaments most likely. Some guys that well hung can have that happen due to the size and weight when erect. This likely happened when he was pretty young.

  5. I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who met a guy on Seeking Arrangements. He met this guy on the site and they got together twice for brief encounters. After the second meeting, he didn't have a good feeling about the guy and when the guy contacted him again, he nicely told him he didn't want to see him again. During the encounters, the guy told him he was married and had lost his job and needed extra money for his family, which was why he was doing this. That was a week ago. Today he gets a call from the guys wife, saying she was going to the police and ruin his life, like he ruined her life. She found all the texts between my friend and the guy and she was going to take that to the police.

After I calmed him down, I told him that I thought another call was coming, asking for money. I'm not an attorney, but I don't think texts are enough to get him in any trouble with law enforcement. I told him not pay any money, if asked and if the police question him, to get a lawyer.

I'd like to hear back from anyone who has had a similar situation or who can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance for your help.

This is likely a scam the couple have used many times before. You’ve given your friend good advice.

  6. You should be up front in your profile and state that a travel fee may be necessary for meetings outside a core area. That at least let’s the potential client know in advance of an additional cost.

My personal practice is to cover the cost of Uber, taxi, or valet parking if I’m hiring a guy in a large city like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco or similar. I confirm the rates for parking and get estimates for an Uber ride. Between $50 - $75 would be the limit on what I’d be willing to cover.

When finalizing arrangements I tell the guy I’ll cover these nominal costs.

  7. From today’s Wall Street Journal. The government is investigating escort websites again. Be careful out there everyone. See link below for full article.

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/after-backpage-u-s-investigates-massage-escort-websites-that-now-dominate-market-11568548800

It is true that website domains registered abroad may be outside the jurisdiction of U.S. law enforcement. But officials can request information from their U.S.-based technology providers and can seize those accounts through a court order, which could interrupt the websites’ operations. U.S. officials can also seek to prosecute individuals who own or run sites they allege are breaking U.S. laws.

  8. So, you’ve been dieting for months in anticipation of knowing

that you’d have to walk up that gang plank where thousands

of ripped muscle boys would be judging every ounce of fat on

your body for the next week non-stop.

You haven’t so much as looked at a carb, much less tasted one.

Finally, the last day of the cruise arrives. You've nailed every muscle

boy you’re going to get to nail. You’ve danced the final night away

in your tiny all white outfit (that you miraculously fit into). It no longer

matters how perfect your waist line is. It’s over. For the first time in

months, you can eat carbs worry free.

It’s a joyous (although not particularly pretty) moment!

Hope that helps explain the “last day carb fest” phenomenon.

A Ha! You have enlightened me!

The sacrifices these muscle boys must make to attract other muscle boys on a gay cruise is amazingly humorous.

  9. This is an issue the entire hotel industry is trying to manage. As a business events professional, I read a number of industry trade publications. The focus of these efforts is targeting organized trafficking primarily in women and children. Hotel employees are receiving training in spotting the telltale signs of trafficking.

I would not be too concerned about hotels zeroing in on single male escorts conducting business unless they are creating issues for other guests with noise, drugs, or bad behavior. That kind of action will get any guest tossed out or arrested.

  10. Funny you should mention the buffets.

One of the more humorous aspects of being on an Atlantis

cruise is seeing the empty lines for the pizza and pasta stations at

the buffet all week long.....until the last day. Then it’s a shit show free

for all with every ripped muscle Mary on the boat clawing their way

to the front of the lines and stuffing their faces with carbs.

It happened on every single Atlantis cruise I went on without fail.

I need some context here. I’m not grasping the significance of the “last day carb fest”.

  11. This reminds me of when Halston decided to partner with JC Penny on a mass market line of clothing. Halston was in financial trouble at the time. This was supposed to rescue the brand. It turned into a disaster. High end stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman immediately dropped his couture line. The department store I worked also stopped carrying the Halston brand. No upscale retailers wanted to be associated with JC Penny.

It was a different time in the 1980s when Halston made this move. Today every designer has a “down market” mass merchandise line. This has gotten so out of hand it’s ridiculous to an extent. From outlet stores to Walmart there’s some designer label available.

This means Calvin Klein is either ahead of the trend or about to destroy what little cache the brand has left. I wonder if the marketing team has thought this out entirely? Does CK mind becoming known as a brand for “plus size women”?

  12. @azdr0710 is totally correct in how to approach this issue.

Aspen escorted very briefly a few years ago. I’m not sure if he liked the experience or not.

I follow him on Twitter and JFF he doesn’t mention anything about currently being available for hire. I’d certainly hire him if he were available.
