To add my two cents in … I hope I make sense … but the “syndicate” is too much of a descriptive word.  It’s a different business model.  In Asia, you go to spa and pick boys/men who are availble. In the rentmasseur world … it’s only a handful of asian travellers who are a part of it. They do tag their website on their “About Me” portion. Asiantantric. 
 
Some of the masseurs linked above do not look like members of Asiantantric and look like individual masseurs who are — like any other color out there - might have misleading pictures or are travelling all over for this type of work.  YMMV to the fullest.   
 
i’ve been to two of the asian masseurs linked here and one is a name changer and one is a new masseur in the RMasseur scene.  

I think I was the one who first applied the name syndicate. I especially noticed this on Grindr, where I would get at least eight IMs daily from very similar profiles of guys with Chinese names. They all had the same age, height, and weight, and they were all seeking guys over 45.
Moreover, their descriptions always used the same trite (and very non-Grindr-like) platitudes about love and respect for older men. 
Sometimes we see similar groups on the RM sites.

I agree with Gormlet. He offers a C- rub and tug. And he didn’t even do the full hour - tried to do HE as soon as he could so he can move on to the next client.

Crime has also increased in SF, at least according to those who still live there. Would you agree maninsoma? Since parking is limited, many have to park their car on the open street (who have them anyway) which is ripe for pilfering. If you’re just using a phone while walking on the street or on public transit you are a target. There have been videos on social media of tourists getting their luggage stolen in broad daylight. Group robberies at conveniences & retail stores have gone viral, and I’ve seen some petty theft occur right in front of me by some bold young men at the Walgreens in Castro. They ran out & got away with it. Add to that the homeless/mental/drug epidemic, and working remote as the new norm, the City isn’t what it used to be. With the recent change of the City’s DA, and the governor offering a state of emergency aid to the Mayor, there is some hope things might start to turn around for the better….
It’s not all bad, I still like to visit SF periodically, and some great food spots, entertainment, museums, and coastal sites to see. Some good points raised in another thread as well:

I think any serious discussion of the "whys" is political, and I assume the political message board got eliminated for a reason so I will avoid venturing into that territory.
As someone who has lived in San Francisco since the mid 1980s, I can say that this decay has been going on for quite a long time but really escalated due to the pandemic.  San Francisco has not really recovered from the lock-downs the way other U.S. cities have.  Downtown is still a shell of its former self.  A lot of businesses throughout the city shuttered and nothing has opened to replace them.  A lot of productive people left (census says 7% population loss between 2020 and 2022), but from appearances the homeless population did not decrease during that time but rather increased.  So the percentage of mentally ill and drug addled individuals roaming the streets versus people who are able to take care of themselves properly has changed, making the challenges associated with homelessness even more visible.  There is also seemingly no longer any effort to abate graffiti, so just moving around the city you get the sense that it's falling apart and no one cares.
I honestly don't think it's a problem of money spent on services or that services aren't available.  San Francisco spends a lot of money to serve people with mental illness and/or drug addiction, or simply to help house people who are homeless without those issues. 
I won't blame this all on the pandemic, though, since I started feeling alarmed about the downturn here before 2020.  For a number of years I walked to a gym in the middle of the night to work out.  I cannot recall exactly which year it was, but several years ago I just stopped feeling safe walking by myself at 4:00 a.m.  Before that, I would typically encounter no one on my walk or maybe I'd see a trash collector.  But I started encountering a lot more people on my walks, and some of them were obviously potentially dangerous (screaming at the top of their lungs, using some object to take their rage out on various objects in their vicinity) and others who simply gave me an uneasy feeling (like someone sizing me up to see if I was a good candidate for a mugging).  I decided to start using the much less well equipped gym in my condo complex than continue to risk walking alone in the middle of the night.

From his ad and photographs (especially the ones that are under lock and key)--I'm encouraged to engage his services for an erotic massage.  If this happens, I'll report back here as well as write a review of my experience with this "chunky guy."

Took the plunge.   Nice guy, very friendly and goes the extra extra mile to please.   Attractive but very slight build , shorter and not nearly as defined or muscular as i would have expected from picture.

I think we was previously in LA, but has been in San Jose most of December, with some time in SF. May be doing an extended stay but set his home as San Jose on MR, I’ve seen other MTs do that even though they are visiting.

I've met him a 3-4 times. Massage itself is good, extras were quite impressive. He seems to orient himself to an erotic massage. Decent extras first time we met but it has definitely developed over time as I have repeated.

tried Nathan/Jack out. therapeutic only (no draping, though), but the massage itself was excellent (if you like deep pressure)

I saw him in San Francisco recently on one of his many visits. He stays in a work/live space with just a room (bathroom is shared out in the common space). He's gorgeous, says he's originally from Saudi Arabia, and removes his shirt during the massage. Very hairy, toned torso. Happy to give a HE but doesn't remove shorts. The massage itself isn't all that professional and is somewhat too deep for someone who apparently has little real training. He's a super-nice guy and wonderful to look at, but I wouldn't repeat for that high of a price.

I talked about my experience with him and trying to meet, previously. It should have been a warning sign. He looks like his pics for sure. However, the experience was lackluster to the extreme. I think he’s a nice guy, but the Manny/Bruno Baxter you see on film… that personality wasn’t remotely there. Don’t expect him to put any real effort into the encounter.
As a frame of reference, I have hired porn actors many times and only 2 others (besides Manny/Bruno) were a disappointment. Those were definitely outliers in my experience.
And yes he was escorting for years… even before porn actors on Sean Cody were allowed to openly escort. He stopped openly escorting and seemed to retire from it. I meet him during that “retired” time.
