  1. I never get tired of watching A Room with a View  a film produced by Merchant Ivory Productions.   Producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory were life partners.  The story was drawn from the book by E.M. Forster, a gay British author.

Lucy's brother, the sweet Freddy Honeychurch, is not a gay character although he is quite smitten with the character George Emmerson, so one might wonder.

No need to clutch your pearls.  Rupert Graves was 22 when this filmed.

The hidden gem of the movie might be Daniel Day Lewis as the effete Cecil.

You might complain it's not really a gay movie.

    OK.

Then Maurice is another I never get tired of watching.  Another Merchant Ivory production based on another book by Forster.

In this production, Ivory has Rupert Graves playing cricket instead of tennis.  He's still cute!

  2. The Power of the Dog got a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, according to the article in Variety.

Based on a novel written in the 1960's.  The story takes place on a ranch in Montana back in the 1920's.

I may read the novel before the movie is released.  Sounds good.

If you watch the trailer or read reviews of the novel you'll know the story evokes homoerotic tension.  Cumberbatch plays an American rancher, and sounds like he's quite good in this movie.

i recommend not watching the trailer or reading any reviews, to avoid too much unnecessary information.

From the USA nothing like a smooth Georgia accent. From England the Essex accent and East London as well. Australian accents from Sydney and Adelaide. South African English. These are the ones that get me going!

Yes!  When I was a lad living in Norcross GA I fell in love with this sweet Georgia boy.  His smile and his syrupy sweet Georgia accent melted me.

I saw something interesting at the b ball court in my neighborhood last Friday. I was taking a break after my bike ride checking out the guys. It was getting late, only one guy there, kinda cute. I wanted to wait until he left but it was late, getting dark so I hang out for a while, nothing happening so I start to go. I walk my bike past the court and out of nowhere pops this gorgeous bronzed shirtless GOD! WTH is he getting here so late for? And then it occurred to me just what you wrote in your post. Maybe he’s looking to hook up. I walk slowly so I can see what he’s up to. He does some stretching then starts running sprints along the court. I wanna go back and see if anything transpired between him and the other guy (who was still there) but I thought that would be creepy so I biked home. That would have been so hot! Its been raining here since Saturday so I haven’t been back to the park. May never know what happened. Never saw that dude before but I’m gonna be sure to hang around till it gets dark from now on! 😝🤪😜

I'm convinced some of the basketball jocks are looking for gay companionship afterwards.  It makes sense.

  5. Firebird  (2021, Estonia/UK) set in the Soviet Union during the Cold War, is screening at Outfest 2021 here in LA.  This year you can stream the films during a limited window of time for each.

Firebird  screened at the Moscow International Film Festival earlier this year.  I am curious how such a film is being received there.  The movie is based on Sergey Fetisov’s memoir about Roman, the fighter pilot Fetisov fell in love with.

It seems this was a passion project by those that became aware of the memoir.  I would love to read it.

This is a modest budget indie movie.  It's good.

Love this. I've been going for pandemic walks with my neighbor since last August and at some point we happened on a local park with a basketball court. When the weather warmed up we started seeing young guys shooting hoops. Around May there was one guy in particular I was drawn to. That day I only saw his arms and the back of his head but I was still smitten. Since then I've seen him there many times (he's really cute) but never shirtless. This past Saturday I went for a bike ride and as I rode through the park I saw him there by himself shooting baskets. It had been a hot day but it was late afternoon and the sky was darkening like it was going to rain so I decided to finish my ride and come back to the park and see if he was still there. About 5 minutes after I left the park it started raining lightly so I turned around and came back. He was still there but everyone else had left so it was just me and him. I felt silly just watching him so I started to bike home. As I did the rain started to lighten up and I thought I must be crazy. This may be the only chance I get to be alone with him so I went back to the park entrance; he was still there. I hung out there for about 5 minutes wondering what, if anything I could do and finally decided to bike the oval around the perimeter of the park. Halfway around I had to decide if I wanted to take the shortcut through the center or continue around. The shortcut goes right to the basketball court so rather than be too obvious I kept going around. By the time I completed the loop and was back at the basketball court he was gone. I stopped and looked around - he was walking down the shortcut that I had declined to take. If I had we would definitely made eye contact. But what made it more excruciating was he had taken his shirt off and draped it around his neck. Is it possible he did this just for me? He must have seen me biking the loop and knew I would be coming around and I had never seen him go shirtless even on much hotter days. I thought momentarily about following him but that would have been uber creepy so I just went home. Not even a minute later it started pouring rain. Apropos. Anyway I'll be going for a bike ride in a little while and I'll probably pass through the park. If anyone has any advice on how to proceed I'd appreciate it. Wow this is a long post I'm sure no one will read it but I just had to tell someone.

Side note: I've noticed jock-type gay or gay curious guys lingering at the basketball hoops at a couple of parks I walked my dogs and at least twice observed a love connection (or lust connection) unfolding after the game when most of the guys were heading home.

  7. I tried Seancody for a while.  Was interesting how they had Stu pop up in some clever new edits of  older videos just to say hello or throw a bone to his fans.  That surprised me because for a while it sounded like he wanted a clean break from gay porn and was torn by his choice to ever do it.

To each his own, but I am not attracted to body builders and was disappointed at what became of Stu's physique.

He seemed like a great guy though, so best of luck in whatever path.

  8. For a bad experience, i appreciate when reviews stick to the facts, and just the facts, and not a review trying to trash somebody.  Own your own reaction without assigning too many labels to the provider.   e.g. "he's is a failure at communicating"  vs. "I had little success communicating with him"

Same for a good experience.  I like the reviews that remind how everyone's experience may vary.

So, perhaps the data requested can guide the review to stay reasonable that way.

Look and so at the beginning of a statement are not dictionary uses of the words.

“Look,” would require reference to a visual aid such as a chart or graph to support the point.

”So,” would indicate a summation in reference to a previously mentioned assertion.

They are used in place of “Um…” and “uh” which are used as a stall for gathering thought. “Look” when spoken by a politician could also be standing in for the less polite, “sh-eeee-it”

One can use "so" to help indicate a consequence,

and is especially helpful when the audience isn't as clever as we here in the forum.

  10. Dear White People returns next month for those into that.

One could always see why he was loved.

I suppose at the very beginning he foreshadowed his own end.

ABC wouldn't show the scenes with Murray Bartlett and Lukas Gage concerning ass eating.

    Exactly.

There is so much in The White Lotus that is foreign to what is found on ABC.

Here is the New Yorker piece, linked below.

I skimmed it and seems to be free too many spoilers.

The Brilliant, Biting Social Satire of “The White Lotus”       Mike White’s HBO tragicomedy is one of the best shows of the year.
