  1. Wall Street Journal today had a mixed review. Good tunes and attractive cast, but poor substance in premise and execution of the story. In summary, WSJ called it a 2nd rate version of Wicked with even less of a moral message. But WSJ said it will likely appeal to the out-of-state tourist masses who want to see something like Wicked, and to the gays who want to see the good-looking bare-chested muscled ensemble.
  2. I always use no foreign transaction fee credit cards, and use a no foreign transaction fee debit card to withdraw cash in the local currency at the airport. I wanted to get a second debit card account in case one was lost or the account became frozen while abroad. I researched and found Charles Schwab offers a no fee, interest bearing debit card account with no foreign transaction fees, AND they reimburse all ATM fees charged by others. It sounded too good to be true, but I've been using it for about six months and it has delivered. At the end of each month I get a deposit equal to the sum of all ATM fees I incurred that month. The only caveat: I had to open a Charles Schwab brokerage account, but that also has no account maintenance fees and I am able to leave it sitting empty and still take advantage of their debit account.
  3. Perfect timing to ask that question. Today's Wall Street Journal had an article that said businesses and leisure travelers are abandoning their loyalty to an airline and forgoing their loyalty points in order to save money on the ticket, even if it was with an airline they normally wouldn't fly.
  4. That's all I ever expected from Facebook. I treat it like an annual Christmas letter to my family friends, albeit updated as the events occur. If I wouldn't write it or share it in a Christmas card to my uncle or coworker, then I am not going to post it on Facebook.
  5. Thank God it's not 2021 anymore
  6. One positive benefit to masks in 2021/2022 is that you could tell when a provider's photographs were current. If the photographs were taken in the mirror at the gym locker room he was usually wearing a mask, so at least we knew the photos were from post-2019.
  7. Ah, those poor selfish people. (Joking)
  8. The number you gave is quite an acceptable risk to me. By comparison, 1,300,000 deaths occur from automobile crashes each year according to World Health Organization. Still, the advantages of the automobile outweigh the direct deaths caused by them. The drastic disruptions caused by masking, social distancing, and mandatory shut downs after vaccines were available were not worth the tens of thousands of lives they may have saved, in my opinion. Should anyone disagree, they first better not use an automobile, ride in an automobile, or have services delivered to them in an automobile, lest they be called a hypocrite for endangering far more lives than by not wearing a mask. I wonder... statistically will I save more lives by wearing a mask while driving a deadly automobile, or by not wearing a mask and choosing to take the much safer train. Ah, the ethical dilemmas we face! As for the higher number of New York City residents who choose to wear masks for public safety, I wonder why then are fewer New Yorkers taking the subway post-pandemic but personal vehicle use is up? They find it acceptable to inflict more deaths on others by the increased use of private automobiles, all while trying to avoid their own by being in close spaces with others on mass transit??? I wouldn't call that necessarily sociopathic, but rather just causing more harm than good by living in fear.
  9. Exactly. I have coronavirus tests at home, but if I test it would be if I have symptoms and then to confirm to show my employer, who is still offering 80 paid hours of sick leave to stay home if I test positive for the virus. If I don't eventually test positive, I lose the paid time off. I'm not going to do anything to catch the virus on purpose, like travel to Wuhan or something (lol), but it's nice to know I have the test and the paid leave is available if I need it.
  10. This. I've booked ten flights this year. Seven of them business/first class, two of them premium economy (no first class available on those flights). And on seven different airlines. (Alaska, American, British Airways, JetBlue, Southwest, United, WestJet) Each time I booked directly with the airline who operates the flight. I just choose the airline with the best schedule and price for business/first class for my desired travel dates. I don't see the point in being loyal to a single airline that doesn't have convenient flight times to my desired destination, just in the hopes of earning enough loyalty points to someday get a free checked piece of luggage.
  11. I must travel among adults highly educated on the subject. I haven't seen anyone wear a mask in my presence since last June when I was in New York City. And since then I've been to the doctor's office, theater, restaurants, and various stores, and have traveled by airplane and cruise ship, and haven't seen anyone with a mask.
  12. Yes, these events are for guys. No gals allowed!
  13. While you're inquiring about the Monkeypox vaccine, get the Chickenpox vaccine if you haven't already had the virus as a child. It's similarly as painful to adults as Monkeypox.
  14. I have walked out of an appointment without paying exactly once: when the provider insisted on payment up front. I don't pay up front. All other times I have the money waiting on the side table if I am hosting, and for repeat hires or incalls I don't even do that I just pay from my wallet at the end.
  15. If a friend of mine wasn't vaccinated for Monkeypox, I would tell him to enjoy his trip but perhaps avoid the bathhouses since that's where the outbreaks historically originated. Correction: That's where the outbreaks outside of Africa originated
  16. Is this agent at Paragonya Sauna?
  17. This is one reason why I never provide my passport number in advance, whether booking a flight or a cruise. To me, it is worth the extra few seconds to let let the agent type in my passport information when I arrive at the airport or cruise terminal to check in, rather than the technological problems that can come when I update my passport or identification between the time of booking and departure.
  18. His profile was just created yesterday, so it's not surprising there are no reviews yet
  19. I'm sorry to hear that. I have been with TMobile month to month for at least a decade now, and I have never had a price increase expect for maybe one cent, but then it goes back down one cent the following month. That is the main reason I switched from Cricket to T-Mobile. Cricket would keep adding random fees (statement fee, accept a payment fee, service fee, tax recovery fee, new president fee, month with a vowel fee) to the advertised monthly rate.
  20. Roth. 100 percent of my retirement portfolio has been converted over to Roths.
  21. Mexico is becoming more and more dangerous in the current political climate. On my last trip to Puerto Vallarta a few weeks ago, the streets and airport were overrun with tanks, military vehicles, and armed militia. I'm going to wait a few years before going back. I haven't been to Prague or Barcelona yet, but those locations would be on my short list for summer/autumn travel.
  22. My parents told me about their experience during the Savings and Loan crises of the 1970s/80s. They said always have your money in two separate FDIC insured banks. If your money is tied up in one for a few days or weeks, you'll be able to access the other bank. This advice proved wise in the 2008 financial crisis. My primary bank, Washington Mutual, was taken over by FDIC just as I was trying to buy my first house. Thankfully I had a second bank with enough money in my account to cover expenses until my Washington Mutual funds became available. To this day, I still keep my money in two separate banks.
  23. Renovation is complete. Their Facebook page is advertising a soft opening tomorrow of their new facilities.
  24. Agree 💯 100% of car repossessions occur on cars with a monthly payment. 100% of bank foreclosures occur on homes with a mortgage. It's better to have low recurring expenses than to try to earn more to pay more.
