Have you considered using the "Burner" app on your current mobile phone instead of buying a separate device? I am not in Canada so can't really help when it comes to phone availability. Over in the USA you can go to T-Mobile store - they have a pre-paid plan that includes international texting and data for roaming.

I used the service to convert a VHS to digital. It worked out just fine. It was not mature content, so I cannot speak to their policy in that regard.

Amazon offers a service for this - if you search the amazon site for "8mm transfer" it should come up. You can also buy a digitizer and scan it in yourself if you have a number of them you want to take care of - but that is a more expensive option as you will be buying a digitizer to attach to your computer.

Not a good first impression, I will grant you, but not what I would call a bad experience. On a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst kind, hair raising, fear for my life bad experience - inability to establish communications with a companion is pretty much a 0 in my book.
