No one is saying you shouldn't tip an owner of a business if you want. In the situation you presented even I would tip him. He squeezed you in on an emergency basis and charged what I am guessing is the standard rate. That's above and beyond in my book.

You guys are lucky to have competent leadership Down Under. Even the supposedly smart leaders in the US are still pushing forward on excessive opening of life. I have never personally ended an appointment early but one of my first hires did. I booked for two hours but he left after approx one when I came. We cuddled for a little bit after that but he wasn't really interested in talking much which I like. I paid for the two hours but regretted not keeping a portion of the second hour I didn't get. I was so new to this I didn't think much about it. He did what I asked in bed but I felt cheated. It was weird because we had a couple of good phone conversations before the session.

I went on the river architecture tour my first time in Chicago. I loved it. It also helped being from NY and having a good back-and-forth with all the hometown people about which city is best. Obviously, the answer is NY. If your guy likes comedy shows, I highly recommend a show at Second City. Lots of famous comedians got their start there.

This is an interesting perspective. All I'll say is I disagree about status anxiety. I have my own reasons why I tip when I do, but I absolutely hate doing it in most circumstances. And the amounts "recommended" are egregious imo.

Is this true in restaurants also? I'm going to London in the summer. In NY, 20% is typically the norm and even that at times is low.

As someone who is on a legislative advocacy committee of a 501©(3), as long you stick to advocating for specific legislation or language in bills and avoid any electoral lobbying, you are usually in the clear. Also, the money spent on these activities needs to be small amount of the overall spending the organization does.

That's why it took me so long to book my first session.

As a client, I like to book in advance so I can block out my schedule since things tend to come up for me randomly at times. Without scheduling while I know I'm free, there's always a chance something immediate might arise. I have never once flaked nor cancelled on a guy. I even trekked out to an appointment when I wasn't feeling great because I hadn't been able to get ahold of him to cancel the day before. My time is super important to me so I understand what it's like when someone wastes it. Ergo, I tried to never waste someone else's.
