I think this depends on the situation. I tend to like to book things in advance, even far in advance, especially if I have to plan a trip since it gives me the ability to get good rates on flights and hotels. I contacted a guy who lives in London in June 2019 to set something up for either around Thanksgiving or late August/early September depending on the schedule of the people I would be staying with and he had no issues with it. I think it helped that, even though I was staying in London longer, the main purpose of my trip was to see him. After that session went very well, I asked last October if he would be willing to schedule a session for this past August for a multi-day session to correspond with my birthday. Again, he had no issues and we arranged everything. Unfortunately, the pandemic happened so we postponed it.
