Yes, I always give to the Ali Forney Center in NYC. As you indicated there are a lot of homeless LGBT youth in NYC - I believe San Fran and LA face some of the same problems, but NYC has always been a beacon of hope for these young people. They need all the help they can get. In fact, they opened the Bea Arthur Residence for this purpose a year or so ago (I will post a link below.). Give!! So if you usually pay $15 for the cut + say $5 tip = $20, I would tip $25 being the $20 holiday tip plus regular visit $5 tip. I usually hand over the cash, wish him a happy holiday. No card or gift, just a sincere thank you and a bit of holiday cash to spread around.

I find your humanity and honesty refreshing. It is hard to admit that we have blind spots. Honestly, it wouldn't change the equation for me - I always go into a meeting assuming that there is a STD present; and plan and play accordingly.
