If sightseeing is on your agenda, stay somewhere near Magnificent Mile. North Michigan Ave. Its an admittedly commercial and touristy area.... but very nice nonetheless.

I definitely wont buy upholstered furniture online again. I have a "standard" for purchasing local v. online - all items. I start local. If equal price or slightly higher priced locally, I buy local. If significantly less online... 20%... I buy online. The determining factor is usually choices, options. More and more, I cant find exactly what I want in local retailers, and buy from Amazon. In the case of my TV stand(s) ... Ive got a wide recessed area, and seeking a stand of a certain width. None available locally. Hundreds of choices online. Most TV stands require assemby anyway, so I ordered. I wont try Houzz again. Latest Wayfair attempt is still in box... I'm letting box dry thoroughly before opening. The box-damage is really Fedex's responsibility. Nonetheless, If I open box and find damaged contents... I'm finished with online furniture purchases. Sad, because I suspect retail will continue to disappear. My furniture choices, even in a major metro area's suburbia, are crap or very high-end. Nothing mid-level. Macy's was closest. And many stores I walked into wanted me to pick items from catalogs anyway.

Anyone else bought furniture online? I'm curious about experiences. I'm redecorating. Bought a rug from Overstock.com. Called with questions before I placed order. Phone rep explained "no returns if you just dont like it." Also looked up specific item history, telling me mostly excellent reviews, a few comments that color was slightly darker. I wanted slightly darker... ordered it. Arrived on time, and very happy with purchase. Ordered a chair from Wayfair.com. Delivery repeatedly delayed, eventually took 5 weeks. Although ordered free delivery which means drop off at door ...nice delivery guys unpacked and started assembly. Drivers discovered damage, picked up chair and moved back to truck. Excellent service, but disappointing experience. A little luck in that fabric, color varied significantly from website photo - which is not a reason Wayfair will take return. Refund processed quickly. Replacement chair purchased locally - Macy's . New flatscreen, difficult to find TV Stand locally that fits my room .... ordered stand from Houzz.com. 2-day delivery. Houzz said shipped, FEDEX said not yet shipped. Target delivery date changed. 10 days later, inquired on Houzz website - "we're contacting shipper." Three days later I called, insisted on waiting on phone while they contact shipper. Item discontinued, Houzz shouldn't have sold. Web search show item listed as discontinued on other sites... Houzz still selling after my return. Refund pending. Ordered a different TV stand from Wayfair. Arrived in two days. Raining here.... box soaking wet and torn. Spoke with Wayfair, they said keep it.... if damaged, they'll refund. They don't want it back, regardless. Lengthy post, I know. Given my experiences, I'm wondering.... is anyone ordering furniture online with success?

Looking forward to seeing it later this year....

I think I have been discriminated against at work
LaffingBear replied to Tommygunzz's topic in The Lounge
Just one guy's perspective. After 25 years in management, I transitioned to consulting. I do a lot of recruiting. Written reference letters mean nothing to me - I tend to disregard them. I tell candidates not to bother sending them. Its a frustrating and contradictory world. Employers want references. But all sizeable employers have policies saying they won't give references - they'll merely confirm employment . I use an employment application. I insist candidates complete and sign the sections regarding honesty and references... tell them they can complete the rest or attach a resume. The reference section includes a hold-harmless release regarding reference requests of contacts. (Probably worthless, but better than nothing...and it helps me get info.) I only accept verbal references. Want verbal confirmation of employment. And frequently get people to say more than their policy permits... particularly when they want to give a good reference. Stated differently, when every previous employer defers to their no-reference policy, refusing to say anything - particularly if I reach former managers outside the HR department - its a potential bad sign. If candidates provide a letter, but dont want me to contact an employer... its a red flag. ....just my way, my industry.... -

I tend to agree. But if you're determined to follow up, get an attorney. Speaking as a former manager, VP in a publicly-traded corp, I didnt read anything that sounds like actionable discrimination. Inappropriate - yes. Perhaps borderline harassment or hostile... They'll respond that you had a duty to address the matter while employed, and "spin" it as sour grapes after termination. With an attorney, you might get a settlement as a nuisance... But then you won't be able to list that employer. Depending on where you are in career plans, that may not matter. It's a huge energy drain to pursue a settlement, potentially expensive, and you may never get the outcome thats truly helpful. Give serious thought to moving on. -
Our CA HOA, the buildings, the grounds, "common areas" are covered by Farmer's. A few years ago, after claims, they didnt raise premiums... they threatened non-renewal. We were dismayed by how many carriers won't write HOAs, or won't unless they're claim-free for years. State Farm (my individual condo policy carrier) wouldn't consider any new HOA client unless claim-free for 3-years. Luckily, we worked it out and stayed with Farmers. I don't know anything about Country Financial . But if you had a large claim last year, finding alternatives won't be easy. I'd have your agent speak with underwriting regarding the premium increase. You may be able to address an issue. E.g., new handrails if the claim involved stairs, or add sprinklers after a fire, or parking improvements, or..... We're paying approximately $1000 per year per owner, if that info helps.

Is there any practical recourse? Even if illegal, even if willing to report to police? If video gets out.....? How can anyone pursue civil litigation, unless there's proof of harm? I suspect that its happening much more frequently than anyone knows. I've had a rentguy peruse my room, touching every item... clock, remotes, the little Roku device, etc checking for cams. Made me angry, but also made me assume he probably records if at his place. He wouldnt remove hat or shades for fear of being recorded. I threw him out. I've thought about it, and its influenced my preferences on setting. I've also wondered what I'd do if I found a camera: I'd grab the camera. Examine for sd cards and take it. (My front door cam records on SD Card and streams on web.) I might smash the camera, or confiscate it. And I think I'd threaten the guy that if a recording is ever made public.......... Of course, dont really know... The topic makes me sad, and a little paranoid.

Opera has always been a hole in my performing-arts experience. I've always been interested, never been. There was a simulcast of The Met's La Boheme this past weekend at my local cinema - alas, it was sold out. I just discovered that the Met has an On Demand app on my new smartTV. I'm going to try the free preview. Does anyone gave any experience with the OnDemand program? More importantly, can anyone point me toward a good resource for libretto? I found operafolio.com. Hoping to broaden my horizons, eventually make my way to the San Francisco Opera

This is an interesting topic to me. I have a cam to see who is at the door. Nothing else. Neighbors have cams all over.... outside, nanny cams, etc. I understand why. I know this is a leap.... but the internet is full of hidden cam vids... including porn. My last bad experience, the rentguy walked around my bedroom examining devices for fear of hidden cams. Makes me wonder if I should be concerned about paid sessions, or hookups, at others' homes. Or wonder if its increasingly on rentguys' minds that they might be recorded. Does it change rentguys'/clients' preferences on hosting? Apologies for semi-hijacking thread.

What do you do when he wants payment upfront?
LaffingBear replied to InterestingGuy's topic in The Deli
I've seldom been asked to pay up front. Historically, I dont recall there being a problem when I was asked. But I've never liked doing it. It happened once in 2017, as as the minutes progressed, I became dissatisfied, and asked the guy to leave. Found myself wheedling with the guy to get my money back - eventually got 80% back. But if he hadn't had upfront money, I'd have more forcibly taken him to the door. So, I won't pay upfront again. -
Uh huh Escorts And sales people And repair men And hairdressers And employers And coworkers And recruiters And relatives And friends And children And elected officials People lie. Not all of the time. Not most of the time. Not always with evil intent. Sometimes we label them "little white lies." But they're still lies. Its the human condition.

Roommate moving. Should I feel something?
LaffingBear replied to gallahadesquire's topic in The Lounge
How about: There are no mandatory feelings. Feel what you feel, or not, and accept it. What's the alternative? Force yourself to feel something because you feel that you should/need to feel something? They're your feelings, not an exercise at the high school for performing arts. Trying to feel what you don't feel naturally will only leave you with the feeling that the bullshit is absurd. -
Nest and Ring have excellent reviews. They're priced higher, may be worth it for reliability and ease of setup. I chose to go a less expensive route, and put a Wansview In window next to door. Only $38. Adequate for my purposes to see who is at front door. Most importantly, clear instructions, easy set up. First two cams tried both returned. The setup instructions, translated to english, were indecipherable . I'd recommend that anyone pay extra attention to online review content. Setup/language/teeny-tiny fonts on printed instructions are all very prevalent complaints.

Never happened to me. Similar to prior post .... had guys drift off, but never contacted again. I vaguely remember one guy posting on MSS that he was moving on from the biz, but Id already decided to stop seeing him.

Its about ratings, money, and participant willingness to be exploited. Most of these reality shows.... participants have a more realistic hope of gaining some form of fame and/or exposure-based career compared to winning money. They know it... they say it on social media or in live feeds. So, its possible that CBS TAR wont invite CBS BB alums...but only if they find others they feel will draw a bigger audience.

Confession of an idle mind: I see these type of posts, and have the urge to engage in some form of sting. Arrange a hire then cancel when they're not as advertised, or schedule then no-show by sending documented photo-proof theyre fake, "take one for the team," etc. Its a very fleeting thought, and logic always prevails - whats the point?

The comments from @EZEtoGRU and @Jake above are why I havent tried returning to NobHill Theatre in SF. I remember when there were at least some buffed guys there, and a period when it was ALL my type. Now the website show house dancers who appear to be slender waifs only a few meals from homelessness. Hence, havent been in about 12 years.

Pay em.

Ive posted that tale somewhere else on the forums.

We're all wired differently. My wiring prohibits me accepting the feeling that something I'm voluntarily paying for is making me feel disrespected or victimized . I've walked away from guys who were dishonest in advertising. Walked away after starting with guys who had extremely distasteful physical conditions (extreme, oozing roid-backne, and big sore on penis.) Quit seeing guys Id seen multiple times for extended visits after encountering dishonesty, or very lackadaisical performance. Cancelled after being jerked around through multiple, hours of, postponements. Sometimes there's just an annoyance or customer service factor that triggers the feeling "what the fuck am I doing trying to pay for this?" and I move on.

No one who got away. A guy named Brick in LA always intrigued me, but I rarely go to LA... and one visit when I tried contacting, got no reply at all. Most of my disappointments are guys who retired from the biz, or guys who were excellent providers first and several repeat visits, but eventually provided much less satisfying service; left me assuming they tired of the biz - or my biz.

Another good season. Perhaps it was counter-Olympics scheduling, or some other reasons....I didnt care for the two-hour episodes, particularly as it was obvious they weren't originally edited that way. Still, unlike other seasons, there was no one I would have been disappointed to see win. One snarky comment... I was getting really tired of seeing Team Yale's Evan's septum-ring, always askew.
