Further Tale of What Brown Doesn't Do For You (not scat related)

That makes some sense. My home, street address #50.... looks exactly like a neighbor down the street, #90. Same developer. Same design. Same age. Same siding. So I understood when UPS delivered my items to her, and her items to me. However, I can't imagine anything but apathy and the knowledge that they can just report it placed directly in my hands via their phones to explain why a driver would just throw a package on a sidewalk near no home, or a lawn near no door, or leave it at an unmarked gate. Even if there's an honest reason to mistakenly leave it in the wrong place, it's blatantly dishonest to mark it placed directly in my hands. Label me conspiracy-theorist: I wouldn't be surprised if the relationship with Amazon and delivery drivers includes incentives based on accuracy, or penalties when items are reported missing/not received. I didn't have a problem with Amazon 2 years ago when I twice reported an item missing ... it was either tracked down by UPS and re-directed, or replaced. But now that they have their own service, I can't help wondering if I report one of the items missing whether Amazon's response would include some challenge that the delivery driver said they placed it directly in my hands. -
I sort of had that happen.... long ago. None of the preliminaries of tardiness or not matching description. But he zoned out 20-minutes in, and did not revive easily. He claimed it was his blood sugar. Just continued to lay there, even as I got up and expressed my dissatisfaction. I remember I stopped, forced him up and dressed, and got him out of my hotel room. I don't remember the specific financial settlement, but I'm sure I either paid nothing or only a fraction of his fee.

I dont know if there's a norm. Your post may launch a discussion of what you should or should not need to do. So I'll say: if that happened to me, my next few times, I'd confirm. For myself, my peace of mind. Not because I should, but because I want to.

I don't think it makes him shady. Its a bit of a nuanced response. Perhaps overthought. There are a lot of factors, some subtle, in my evaluation of a potential hire. I'm not naive. Most rentguys are in it for the money - that doesn't bother me at all. But when they're particularly blatant about it, it can be a deterrent. Difficult to explain precisely. I consult by the hour. I charge for my time. But I make an effort not to convey to my clients that its all about the money.

Tried one. Got burned. Very little content, updates stopped after 10 days, 1-week later, host posted he wasn't getting his money from OnlyFans, so no updates. More recently, host tweeted he's creating his own paid-content website. I wouldn't imply all accounts are like that; some forum users will say its excellent. But it turned me off OnlyFans, and merits consideration as a reminder "anything can happen." Also turned me off the rentguy, who was visiting my area, and who I'd contacted for an appointment.

Further Tale of What Brown Doesn't Do For You (not scat related)

These things happen all too often. I can't say I don't get upset. But I can agree its not worth getting upset.... because it solves nothing, and I don't feel any better. I've had my share of delivery nightmare stories. UPS. A recent furniture order from Houzz via Fedex Ground. But for me, the champion is Amazon's new gig-economy delivery service. I order from Amazon often. Five of the most recent six deliveries were delivered to the wrong address, or no address at all.... (the most recent was correct; before that, they were 0 for 5). For those who haven't experienced Amazon's new delivery service.... its sort of Uber for packages. Unmarked vans, or cars, with random untrained drivers. They work, of course, from their phones. So, when they dump the package wherever they want, they click their phones and tell Amazon its delivered. Check my order history on Amazon....every one of my recent deliveries was not only marked delivered, it was noted "it was handed directly to the resident." Never once was a package handed to me. With the Amazon app on my tablet, it pops up a notification that my package was delivered. Impressively timely. That's an odd experience, when I'm home. Open the door, and there's no package there. I've taken to going outside immediately and looking around the neighborhood. Found one package at my neighbors front door. One on a sidewalk between two homes. One package was on a common area lawn, and I tried yelling after the presumed delivery guy.... some slob in sweatpants and flipflops on a cold January day. He wouldn't turn around. Another day, no package at my door upon receipt of Amazon notification... I rushed outside, walked around the neighborhood, and found a banged up plain white panel van. Stood there a minute, and a guy came walking up, and responded yes to my question whether he was from Amazon. When I gave him my name, he said yes, he'd left me the package. I asked him to show me, and he walked me to an unmarked wooden gate, no where near any front door, not even close to my home. When I pointed out his error, he just shrugged, and said "I thought that was your address." So, I had my share of problems with UPS. I'd say they were 80-85% accurate. But they were brilliant compared to the new Amazon delivery service. I'd go back-to-brown if I could. -
I can't speak for others. I have a smartphone. But I refuse to engage in behaviors appearing with increasing frequency, and often labeled as addictive. The inability to put down the device. A bizarre version of the old "idle hands" adage many of us recall, whereby many people feel compelled to stare at their phone. While socializing. As pedestrians, even while operating motor vehicles. Its insidious. One of the greatest challenges of management is that people don't focus 100% on work. They need to check their devices. Labeled multi-tasking, they're really cheating their employer. The attraction to want the latest device, despite having a perfectly functional device, and most people using only a very small percentage of what their current device is capable of doing. There are people who report, in surveys, that they love and need their phones. Thoughtless compliance with the cellphone industry's marketing strategies. .. the greatest marketing strategy of my time. To exploit herd mentality and magpie-like fascination with bright, shiny objects to get people to pay ridiculous sums of money for airtime/data. The best example of "planned obsolescence" ever, far outstripping the auto industry. The system has changed so that most don't own their phones at contract-end. Newer phones no longer support expansion via cards. Its all designed to keep the industry primed with demand for new phones and more data. It's shortened attention spans. People react before fully comprehending what they're seeing. Our way of life, capitalism and entrepreneurship, is based on flawed self control. If we all had perfect self control, huge segments of the food industry, the entertainment and casino industries, and major percentages of anything sold retail, would whither. What percentage of the experiences related on this forum arise from flawed self control? If guys thought only with the brain at the top of their neck rather than the brain between their legs, they'd hire far fewer rentguys. The fake pics we discuss here would go away if they weren't successful. Phone scams would stop if everyone had self control. Yes, phones are very good tools, and many treat them as such. But many people treat them as much more than tools. They cant even put their phone in their pocket.... they go through life, room-to-room in their homes, to the break room or bathroom at work, clutching their phones. Thats more than a tool. That's a dependency. I have no self-control.... a few hours ago I wrote that it wasnt my intention to start a discussion on phones, but only mandatory event access-by-phone. But I couldn't resist the urge to opine. On my phone.

<sigh> I didnt intend to initiate a referendum pro and con smartphones. Guess thats social media..... I posted because it appears that those who want to attend an NFL game in my market CAN'T without a smartphone. There are commercial things more convenient with an app. There are enhanced services, like ordering food to your seat at the football stadium. I need a phone app to use the Moviepass service, because checkin is necessary at the theater. But I can go to a movie without using Moviepass. Ive never been in an Uber or Lyft... can you order from a PC or tablet at home? Phone? Any way to pay without using an app at the end of the ride? If no, thats a similar example.... not exactly the same, as one is not prevented from going someplace, only has the transportation methods limited. This app-based, e*ticket access ONLY is my first exposure to such an absolute restriction: cant attend the game without a phone. It wont affect me directly... I already have a phone, the stadium app, and use the app for my tix, my parking, etc. It will hamper my ability to sell, or gift, unwanted tickets. Whatever their reasons, some people dont have smartphones. And its becoming ok to have them cut off from access to some things.

Related, advice: Whatever you switch to, get a decent email client. One of the effects of tech .... never-ending "improvements" designed to make things simpler, dumb-downed. The results are often frustrating. And may conflict with user preferences, or habits. I have some gmail, and some yahoo-family mail. Pulling those pop accounts into outlook, or the generic-default email app on my tablet.... email is fine. Read email on the providers' apps or the web, its sorted and threaded, and the latest response is often buried in the middle of the thread. I am always frustrated by the way gmail presents mail.... and for work, my clients with gmail are the ones who most often report they didnt get my mail (but find it later) and who cant find items to re-send. So, no comment regarding the reliability or safety, but a note regarding administrative aspects.

Is? I don't know. The last guy was pretty good. Not so phenomenal I'd promote him here. Best rentguy kisser ever for me? Jon Vincent. Alec Martinez. But those are based on long long ago experiences. And my spotty memories .

I dont know the full price range, but I know that there are tickets well below $100.... and I'd say $100-$125 is the median. I know plenty of financially comfortable people who can afford, but dont want, a smartphone. People who've gone to football games, have iPads, but dont want anything more than a cellphone when they're out and about. I had a kindle, an ipod, and a tablet for years before I got a smartphone. I kept my 2006 Moto Razr flipphone until 2013 because it was enough. I sell most of my NFL tickets.... and the number one reason potential buyers report not completing the purchase: they want paper tickets. They dont even want pdfs they can print themselves. They certainly dont want to need some app to display an e*ticket/barcode/qr code. I dont think its about affordability. Its about the NFL and team franchises exploiting the herd mentality that drives people to be fascinated by their phones. And their exclusive relationship with TicketMaster .

LOL at Luddite. Knew what it was, of course, but didn't realize the term was currently in vogue - until it was covered yesterday in the CBS Sunday Morning Almanac spot.

Thanks Thats a good read. No, my team is not the Broncos. Bay Area here, and was stupid enough to buy licenses to seats in 49ers new stadium. The article doesnt say much about the RFID cards.... I can see a card being a solution for a season ticket holder without a smartphone. But not for the single game attendee. Im guessing 9ers will also use RFID Cards. What is clear to me... its not about security or convenience.... its about money. The NFL and TicketMaster have an arrangement. Through 2017, NFL Ticket Exchange was the brand, but it was just a label/portal to TicketMaster. Theyve announced elimination of the Exchange brand name, but remain aligned with Ticketmaster. Ive had much better luck selling on StubHub or even craigslist... and careful searching shows that Ticketmaster offers lower sales fees for venue/team tickets compared to ticket holders' resale tix. 7-8% compared to 17% if buying a resale (plus 10% fee deducted from seller reimbursement) While I have season tickets 20+ years, my experiences since buying licenses in their new stadium have been a major deterrent..... I went from never missing a game to never going, selling what I can, or throwing tix in trash. Its a horrible racket ....and if there are football fans here, in the LA or Vegas markets where new stadiums are being built, I caution: dont get sucked into buying seat licenses.

To do what? For other context.... I have a phone. The person who attends games with me, and many others I know, have flip phones.... no apps-capability.

Do you know anyone without a smartphone? No iPhone or Android? Maybe even no cellphone? I'm an NFL season ticket holder. Several years ago, as part of a transition to e*ticketing, they stopped printing and mailing paper tickets. But subscribers could still generate pdf tickets, and print them out for attendees without smart phones. PDFs are also the method to resell, for example, on StubHub. Today, my team announced that in 2018, no more pdfs. No printing tickets. No gifting tickets in Christmas Stockings.... So I wonder... how do people without smartphones, no team app, no ability to display an image or barcode, get into the game? As a side note, the NFL has an exclusive relationship with TicketMaster. Resales are permitted via Ticketmaster. StubHub, which relies on pdfs for NFL sales, will be thwarted by this change. . I get that the decision is about money and the relationhip between NFL & TicketMaster . But I still cant fathom how this will work for those without an Android or iPhone. And, it also makes me wonder.... what else is stymied by lack of a phone?

Depends on the guy, his interests Most recently, seeing a pretty shredded young guy. While not arrogant about it, he knows he looks good in and wears form-fitting clothes. I bought him a sweater to wear when we went out to dinner on a cool evening. I've bought him some other clothing too.

Appreciate all the feedback. I'm currently 75% finished with assembling a TV Stand purchased from Wayfair. It arrived in two days. The box was torn and very wet- thats due to Fedex Ground, not Wayfair. Called Wayfair, they gave me options, and I decided to keep it. Let it dry before opening. Opened next day, one part broken. A drawer part, so I can continue assembling, use without drawer. Called for part. Everyone at Wayfair, phone & email, very polite... but messages differ. The original item arrived in 2-days.... the replacement part, a small piece of wood, they're telling me 2-weeks. I've gained some insights into Wayfair from my experiences . There are soooo many more choices, its tempting to try them. High volume, and I'm guessing most customers happy. I shopped everywhere locally, and couldn't find a TV stand that would fit in the alcove in my room. With that high volume comes high problem-rate. When my first purchase, a chair, was delivered damaged.... I was lucky that the delivery guys did more than drop-off as specified... they unpacked and started assembly (screw on legs). When they found broken leg, they didnt give me an option - they just picked it up and put it back on the truck. Told me to call Wayfair. Wayfair seemed flummoxed the chair was already gone. They were ready to tell me to keep it... apparently the initial response is "keep the problem item, we'll send out a repair man, or replacement parts." They dont want returns. But who wants broken, unusable furniture, sitting around, waiting on some repair man? That became apparent again this week when I reported that the TV stand box arrived damaged, and again when I reported that a part was broken. A phone rep explained they dont really like returns.... minor damage they remedy. Too bad about delays. Major, irreparable damage, they try to send another, or refund... and tell customer they can just discard or donate broken item. Sounds ok, except getting rid of broken item is a customer's hassle. If not for the options associated with online services, I'd declare that I'm 100% finished buying furniture online. Yet I suspect that's unrealistic, as more and more retailers close showrooms.

LOL. When social media advisors are eager to provide travel advice, "a few days" had better mean a few months!

Due to a confluence of events.... a boss I didnt like, lost interest in work, and a commute I detested.... I just quit. On one hand, I was very proud of myself to get out of the situation.... I hear so many people talk about jobs they suffer through, for any number of reasons. I sort of felt like I struck a blow for independence, against employers who make little effort or give little concern to employee welfare. On the other hand, while I'm comfortable, I have second thoughts regarding the financial, career, and social effects of my decision.

I never really watched this show. But I developed an interest in a spinoff/copycat this past year.... Great American Baking Show. Paul Hollywood was a judge on the episode I saw. Although the contest was completed and recorded, it was pulled from airing after 1 or 2 episodes due to sexual harassment allegations against judge Johnny Iuzzini.

I get charged the resort fee when comp'd at Tahoe. Had reservations - cancelled- at Caesars, Vegas last month. Comp'd, but resort fees still showed on reservation confirmation. Resort fees, 3-nights = $117... $133 with tax. I'd heard Vegas properties no longer provide free VALET parking. Are they really charging for self-parking?
-
I havent been to Vegas in 12 years. So info may be out of date. When last there, strip hotels started having security check room keys for access to elevators at midnight. All elevator users ( not just restricted access "premium" floors). A guard stood at elevator lobby. If they still do that.... or if they've upgraded systems to require keys for all elevator access (some CA casinos do this.... most SF office buildings) ... that could hamper access if the plan is for in-calls.

I have left instructions to be packaged and shipped to Amazon. Since Amazon's new delivery drivers never get anything right, I'll be some stranger's problem.
