I don't know what others have said but:
1) He does not feel the same about you, period.

I think this is the key point here. And that's part of the reason that some of us, like @ITakeItDeep above, have a bad feeling when we listen to Max be charming as he apologizes. I think this is something where providers and clients are in this together.
